Thank you for the cards and gifts celebrating my 5 year anniversary at EBC. I received notes of gratitude from our 2 year olds to our 90 year olds and many people in between. I didn’t realize that on the Sunday I was preaching a passage about generosity that I would be the recipient of your generosity. Thank you. But even more than the gifts, I treasure the kind and encouraging words that you wrote to me. I will revisit them in the coming weeks. Words like that sustain a pastor and reaffirm that I’m right where God wants me to be.

As I consider how to help each of you grow spiritually (Colossians 1:28), I don’t think your biggest need is more knowledge about the Christian life. Your biggest need is to put into practice what you have already learned alongside other Christians. That’s why there will be a special emphasis on Sunday summer nights to practice the essential Christian practices of prayer, fellowship, and evangelism alongside other church members.

So for example, Sunday night June 2, I’m exhorting you to get together with a fellow believer or believing family in our church that you know well and pray together. We will provide you with a short prayer guide that Sunday.

The next Sunday night, June 9, I’m exhorting you to spend time with another church member that you don’t know well for a time of fellowship. Invite them to your home, go out to eat together, play games, watch a ball game, do something fun to build or deepen your friendship with them.

We’ll skip a couple of weeks for Father’s Day Bowling Night (6/16) and our Church-wide Corn Park Potluck (6/23), but then on Sunday night June 30, I’m exhorting you to go out on a potential evangelism visit with someone else in your Grow Group to invite families with kids to VBS. We’ll provide names and addresses for you that Sunday morning along with the information you need.

And then in the month of July, we’ll go through that cycle again! My hope and prayer is that you will engage with God’s people this summer in these essential Christian practices or prayer, fellowship, and evangelism so that you will grow in your relationship with Jesus.

I’m looking forward to growing with you this summer!
