Principal's Message
Patriot families and friends,
We need your support for our success. Thank you to all the families who came out Thursday night to hear about our curriculum and a successful partnership. We would like to continue to support small businesses in our community. If you would like to advertise your small business or set up a table at our next parent university, please check out the flyer below. To stay on our path to success we need help with a few reminders:
- Early Check Out- I understand the traffic in carpool at times is tough. We teach until 2:20 PM. When you check your child out early they are missing instruction and it will affect grades. Please be mindful of late arrivals and early checkouts.
- Car Pool- During the first few weeks, the car pool line will be longer than normal. Please help your scholar learn their carpool number as they are called and posted for dismissal.
- Bus Updates- The most accurate and up-to-date bus information can be found in the "Here Comes the Bus" app. Please contact Ms. Maddox our bus administrator with questions.
- PBIS Rewards- If you have not already connected your family, please make sure you connect to the PBIS Rewards app. This is a great tool to communicate with teachers and monitor and celebrate positive behaviors with your scholars.
- Student Handbook- Our school policies and procedures can be found below in our student handbook. Please look over this guide to help with a collaborative school year.

Hello Parents and Guardians!
We are aiming to create and develop mathematical thinkers both inside and outside of the classroom. In order to do this effectively, we can place students in real-life situations and scenarios that require them to think mathematically. By thinking mathematically, students become more effective problem-solvers in the classroom and in real life, and they also develop thought processes that can help master challenging concepts. Below is 1 of 8 recommended factors that support student growth in mathematics. These factors can take place both in the classroom as well as at home.
1. Expectations. This does not refer to our expectations of students but our expectations for students. To transform the culture of math, we must communicate our expectations for students: they will focus on deep learning, rather than just completing work; they will be able to learn both independently and collaboratively; and they will learn from their mistakes and persist through challenges
Math Strategies for Parents with Scholars in Grades 3-5
Grades 3-5 Reading and Writing at Home
What is Comprehension?
Reading comprehension refers to the ability to understand what one reads. It is the ultimate goal of reading instruction.
In 3rd-5th grades, readers lift information from the text to support their explanations and inferences. Using a variety of texts, they are able to determine themes, summarize content, consider different perspectives, and compare and contrast various story elements with detail. They understand that word choice can affect the tone of a piece and are able to notice and compare the text structures used in a variety of texts such as poems, drama, and prose. Readers make connections and analyze how multimedia or visual elements contribute to the written text and will begin to compare/contrast literary elements and themes from different cultures and genres.

The main focus of an Reading Evidence Based Writing (REBW) two-point constructed-response item is reading comprehension. Responses are scored on the basis of the quality of the student’s answer to a question and the strength of support drawn from the text(s). Students are not penalized for grammatical errors. The scoring process rewards students for what they do well according to the item-specific scoring rubric. REBW extended writing prompts assess two modes of student writing. Informational prompts ask students to respond to a question in a well-developed informative/explanatory essay that examines a topic in depth and presents relevant information based on text as a stimulus. Opinion prompts ask students to respond to a question in a well-developed opinion piece that effectively examines a topic and supports a point of view, with reasons, clearly based on text as a stimulus. The scoring process rewards students for what they do well according to the mode-specific two-trait scoring rubric. The two assessed traits are ideas (scored on a 1- to 4-point scale) and conventions (scored on a 1- to 3-point scale), each with a separate rubric. Within the ideas trait, students are not penalized for errors unless they permeate the response and severely interfere with understanding. Within the conventions trait, the severity and frequency of grammatical errors contribute to the student’s score.

As October is National Bullying Prevention Month, the Counseling Dept. and the Attendance Team would like to thank you for getting the scholars to school on time, each and every day! Just a reminder that classroom instruction starts daily at 7:40am. We had a great time celebrating Attendance Awareness Week earlier this month.
The Classroom Guidance Lessons for the month of October will begin on Monday 10/14 and end on Friday 10/26, and will focus on Bullying and Cyberbulling Prevention. We seek to help our scholars understand the importance of being kind, friendly, and respectful to one another to create an inclusive environment where learning can happen for all of our scholars on a daily basis.
Parents, we are proud to partner with Chris180, one of the area's premiere mental health, child welfare and family service organizations, in empowering families and helping children overcome difficulties they may face. If you feel that your child may benefit from a deeper therapeutic interaction, please contact me for more information regarding their free services for our scholars.

This way, you know when the bus is near your stop, so you can send your child out at just the right time. No more worrying about whether your child has missed the bus! RISING 2ND GRADE PARENTS: In Fulton County Schools, all students entering 2nd grade, 7th grade, and 10th grade will be required to submit proof of residency prior to the start of their enrollment in the aforementioned grades. All proofs of residency must be provided with the parent(s)/ guardian(s) name and address.
Utility Proof- Please provide a copy of your most recent utility bill
- Electric monthly statement; OR
- Water monthly statement
**Gas bills are not accepted in Fulton County Schools
