Madison Elementary Art
Art is back at MES!
This month students learn about color, one of the seven Elements of Art.
Kindergarten: They will learn about art tools and supplies, how they work and how to use them. They will also do a project on color mixing where they will make new colors by mixing the primary colors red, yellow, and blue.
1st Grade: Beginning with a project on color mixing, students will build on what they learned last year and model their art after the book about a chameleon called: A Color of His Own by Leo Lionni.
2nd Grade: Lines are everywhere, and students in 2nd grade will create art made up of all the lines they can think to draw. They will be able to point out organic (curved) lines and geometric (straight) lines and use them in their artwork.
3rd Grade: Students start off learning about mixed media art, how it compares to other art and will then make a collage of the color wheel to build on their knowledge of color's elements.
4th Grade: Students will learn about balance in composition and tie in color mixing of primary and secondary colors through their abstract art creations.
5th Grade: Looking at American artist Charles Demuth, students explore symbolism in art and design their own "No. 5" watercolor painting using a warm or cool color scheme.
6th Grade: After looking at examples of radial design in art, students will create their own radial designs using the letters of their names and a pencil transfer technique to ensure perfect radial symmetry. Radial design is a form of symmetry that starts from a center point and grows outward symmetrically, much like a kaleidoscope. They will then make decisions about color for the best possible composition!
