Bohally Newsletter - Week 1 Term 1
4th February 2021
Principal's Welcome
Kia ora Whanau
Firstly a big welcome to you all as we start 2021. This year we have a starting roll of approximately 560 students and we are looking forward to reconnecting with our Year 8 students and meeting our new students and their families. We have a few events planned to involve everyone in the school, starting off with our meet the teacher evening this Tuesday at 5.30 pm and then a time for you to meet your child's teacher on a one to one basis in week 4. There are details on how to book a time below. Newsletters will come out twice a term and these will be emailed out and can also be accessed via our school website.
Bohally Intermediate is a busy place and we encourage our students to maximise their potential by getting involved and actively participate in our school activities ranging from sports teams, choir, te reo classes, academic badges, school production, kapa haka, Pasifika group etc. There are so many options and we try to work hard to provide a varied extra-curricular programme. We value parent support and appreciate assistance with coaching and mentoring. If you have special skills in a particular area and have some time to help out please let us know.
If your personal details change anytime please can you let the school office know asap so we can ensure we can contact you and that you don't miss out on any school communication. I look forward to meeting you all during the year and please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any queries or concerns. In future the newsletter will be emailed out to whanau and can also be found on our school website. If you need to have a printed copy please let the school office know.

Meet the Teachers:
On Tuesday the 9th of February we will be holding a 'Meet the Teachers' evening. This will start at 5:30pm and will be held in your child's classroom. This is a time to meet your child's teacher, visit their classroom and hear about class and school routines.
Whanau Hui:
On the 22nd and 23rd of February, we will be holding three-way conferences. The school will close at 1 pm on both of these days. These 20 minute time slots are an opportunity for you, your child, and their teacher to sit down and set some goals for the upcoming year. It is also a chance to share any extra information that will help the teacher understand your child better. There will be time in this interview to speak to the teacher without your child if you would prefer. To make a booking please go to www.schoolinterviews.co.nz and enter the school code usckv.
Term 1 Curriculum
We have a fun and exciting term planned here at Bohally.
During the first four weeks of Term, our focus will be on 'Learning to Learn'. This is where your child will look at Bohally values and expectations, learn about their class culture, who they are as learners as well as will get to know their classmates and teacher. The maths focus will be Geometry. This is a really valuable time for your child and is vital to building class and school culture. During this time students will also start completing assessments so the teachers can design a learning programme that best fits their class.
PE/Sports focus:
Our first sports event of the year is Swimming Sports. Each class will have two slots per week where they go swimming as a class. During this time they will practice their skills with their teacher. The pool will also be open at break times for casual swimming. In week 6 we will be holding our School Swimming Sports. More information about this will come home closer to the time. As well as swimming we will be working on our 'striking' skills this term - this includes sports such as softball, volleyball, sof-crosse, and cricket.

Communication
At Bohally we strive to keep our community up to date with what is happening at school. We have three main ways we communicate - our school app, website, and Facebook page. We recommend downloading our school app. The app will allow you to set up alerts for your child's class and activities. This causes a push notification on your phone if any notices are uploaded. If you have any questions about how to access any of these three systems please talk to your child's teacher. Below are the links for you to follow.
