Conferences are almost here! Conferences are such an important time of the school year. Students are most successful when there is a strong bridge and partnership between school and home. We can’t wait to see all of our families and share the progress your students have been making. Conferences will be held on February 26 and 27 from 3:00-6:30pm. Please sign up for one conference time with your child(ren)’s homeroom teacher. CLICK HERE to access the Conference Sign-up Genius where you will select a conference time for your child(ren). You will also receive a text with the link today, as we want to make it as accessible as possible.
Some reminders as you select a conference time:
Please sign up using your child’s first and last name. Your time slot will show as ‘filled’ and only the teacher can see the name of who signed up.
You will use the same sign up for all of your children. Move between tabs at the top to see schedules for other Ridgeway teachers. If you are on a mobile device, select the teacher from the drop-down menu and select ‘Go’.
You will receive a reminder email two days before your conference date.
If you are having trouble - please watch the video, try again, and then call the school office for help. Please click here to watch the ‘how to’ video for conference sign up.

Unit Notes
Unit A
Unit A had a great time celebrating Valentine’s Day! Thank you to everyone who volunteered and donated to make the party successful. We are excited to celebrate the 100th day on Tuesday, February 18th.
Parent-teacher conferences are approaching quickly. Please look for a questionnaire in your child’s plastic folder on Friday. Fifteen minutes passes very quickly, so this form will help us focus on the things that are most important to you in your child’s development and education. Thank you for taking the time to complete this questionnaire.
Reading/Writing: We have continued our insect non-fiction unit. We are excited to share their published writing pieces with you at conferences.
Phonics:
Blades/ Horn- We continue working on blends within words with suffixes. We have begun learning about long vowel patterns as well. Trick words: start, many, right, why.
Mincke/Triplett - We continue to focus on medial short vowel sounds and digraphs.
Math:
Blades/Horn - We are practicing telling time, interpreting data, and addition and subtraction strategies.
Mincke/Triplett - We are working on teen numbers and addition/subtraction strategies.
Unit C
Unit C had a blast at the Valentine Sock Hop! Thank you to everyone who helped make this amazing event happen.
Literacy: This unit is titled “ Up Against the Wild”. We are studying a variety of texts including one about wildfires and another is an excerpt from Jack London’s Call of the Wild. The writing components in this unit are shorter responses to text and will challenge students to write narrative, informational and opinion responses.
Health: We are working on a short unit on safety in our community. We will focus on ways to stay safe as well as ways to stay healthy.
Mrs. Graves and Mrs. Sandstedt Math: We are finishing up a unit that has focused on adding, subtracting and multiplying fractions and mixed numbers. We will let you know when the review optional homework is sent home.
Specialist News
From Coach Mason
Hello Ridgeway Families,
I hope this message finds you well. It’s wonderful to see the students having fun while learning new skills in class.
Please remember to have your students wear tennis shoes on their PE days to ensure they can fully participate in activities. Moving and participating in Crocs or sandals can be quite challenging.
Learning Objectives for This Trimester:
We have been focusing on various locomotor warm-ups to help students practice these skills more often. I’ve observed significant improvements in their abilities. Our curriculum has covered locomotor movements, rhythms, non-locomotor skills, catching, throwing, striking with paddles, and dribbling with hands. Additionally, we've incorporated a motor lab with fun movements that combine various skills, such as balancing, hand-eye coordination, body exercises, frisbee tossing, hula hooping, body rotations, cup stacking, and juggling.
Looking Ahead to March and April:
In March, we will focus on dribbling with our feet, kicking and passing, and striking with long implements like golf clubs, hockey sticks, and baseball bats. In April, we will review these skills and conduct reassessments to measure where the students stand regarding their learning objectives. At the end of April, Unit C will have its final Fitness Gram testing for the year.
More information about Field Day and end-of-the-year outdoor games will be coming soon!
I greatly appreciate your support and involvement in your child's PE journey.
Thank you,
Coach Mason
