A Message from the Superintendent
Prepping for the New School Year
Dear ACPS Families, Students and Staff,
I hope you have had a great summer thus far! I can hardly believe August is upon us already. But, as we start to look forward to the next year, we have some pretty fun events on the horizon.
Saturday, August 10 - Back to School Bash
The annual Back to School Bash will be held Saturday, August 10, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Ting Pavilion on the Charlottesville Downtown Mall. Although pre-registration for school supplies and haircuts is full, there is still plenty to do at the bash. We hope to see you there!
Sunday, August 11 - Boys & Girls Club Back to School Bash
If you can't make it on Saturday, the Boys & Girls Club will also be hosting a Back to School Bash from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its Cherry Avenue location (1000 Cherry Avenue). This event boasts a cops vs. kids basketball game, a DJ, free giveaways and more!
Monday, August 5 until the start of school - ACPS Staff Preservice
The month of August is also when our staff starts preparing for the return of students to our classrooms! During the week of August 5, we welcome our new teachers into schools for our New Teacher Academy, where we teach them the ins and outs of working for ACPS. Then, starting the week of August 12 and continuing through the first day of school, all of our staff return to their buildings for our annual preservice week to begin preparing for the return of students.
For more information on these events, and many more happening in the coming weeks, see the Event Calendar on our website!
We are so excited to welcome you back to school for another awesome year!
Looking forward to having you back,
Matthew S. Haas
Superintendent
