St Joseph's Catholic Primary School
Newsletter 4.10.24
This week...
We have been enjoying learning across all classes throughout the week. The KS2 forest schools were once again a big success and we've loved seeing how engaged our children are with the adult-led clubs and groups running during breaktimes.
We had the AGM for our Friends of St Joseph's on Monday evening. We are incredibly grateful for the huge support we get from our FoSJ and I would please urge you to consider whether you may be able to spare a little time to come along to meetings or to offer a small amount of support. It's a big job and the more helpers, the easier it all becomes!
Thank you, as always, for supporting us to
Live, love and learn with the Lord.
Mrs Ronicle
Virtue
Our new virtue this week is: Citizenship
We have explored what it means to show the virtue of citizenship. We have been showing our love for one another by looking after our school and the people in it! Benjamin was awarded the Headteacher's Award this week for the way in which he's volunteered his time to stack chairs and do little jobs around school! We are very grateful for your citizenship.
If your child shows citizenship at home, please let me know, so we can celebrate this in school too.
Thank you for supporting our Macmillan Coffee morning (hosted by our Year 5/6 children) last week!
New reading books!
Exciting news… our brand new reading books have arrived in school! We can’t wait to get these onto our shelves. Look out for these coming home with KS2 children next week!
Swimming - spectators
Just a reminder that we ask parents/carers not to spectate at our weekly swimming lessons. We find the children are so excited to see their grown-ups that it becomes a real distraction and hinders their progress.
Rosary Challenge
This week, we have been taking part in the October Rosary Challenge! We began on Tuesday, with the whole school singing and signing the Hail Mary prayer. Our Mini Vinnies are now leading groups each day to pray the Rosary. We're very proud of the respect you are showing!
Attendance Update
Whole School Attendance this week: 92.19%
This week, our attendance is below National Average. This is largely due to family holidays. Please remember that there is new government guidance in place regarding term-time holidays and fine.
As you know, we love having our children in school and really hope you can support us in getting them to attend as often as possible.
Wake Up Wednesday

This week, we have been learning...
St Nicholas Class (Nursery)
This week, our 2 year olds have been focusing on the story of The Gingerbread Man! We have used this focus in our provision areas, and created some super artwork! We're looking forward to baking gingerbread men next week!
St Francis Class (Preschool / Reception)
The Tiger who came to Tea has been our focus book this week. On Tuesday we made tiger toast with Miss Gill and cleverly practised our maths skills - patterns - using edible black and orange colours to make stripes! We have done lots of writing, drawing and outdoor play based on this wonderful book by Judith Kerr!
St Bernadette Class (Year 1/2)
In PE this week, we have been refining our throwing and catching skills. We then applied them to a game of bench ball. Well done, St Bernadette's Class, for showing such enthusiasm and love of learning!
St Patrick Class (Year 3/4)
In Geography, we made a model of a mountain to show the journey of a river from source to sea. We used paper mache and our geographical knowledge of the different courses the river goes through.
St Therese Class (Year 5/6)
In our forest school session this week, we had the task of making fire and then sustaining it for a longer period of time. The goal was to keep the fire burning for long enough to toast a marshmallow!

Friends of St Joseph's
Our first treat friday seemed to be enjoyed by all, so look out for more to come.
Thanks to those that joined us for the AGM on Monday. It's great to now have Grandma's and Aunties joining Friends of St Joseph's!
The larger events we have planned (disco and xmas fayre) require as many helping hands as possible, so if you have any hours to spare please do let us know.
We are hoping to create a FoStJ area on the notice board in the playground. This is at the bottom of the KS1 steps, so keep an eye out for posters with our upcoming events.
