Wilson Reading
Ms. Sorenson
February 28, 2025
This month sixth grade students have been working on learning about a new syllable type! The VCE syllable. Students have been working on building accuracy with reading and spelling these types of words. Building fluency has also been a focus in class using various passages and multiple readings that contain this reading concept.
Seventh and Eighth graders have been working on reading and spelling words that follow the Double It rule. Students have worked learning the rules about when to and when not to double the final letter in a word when adding a vowel suffix. They have also worked on reading these types of words at the word, sentence, and passage level. They will be completing step 10 by the end of the 2nd marking term.
Looking Ahead
During the month of March students will be analyzing reading comprehension questions. They will be working to identify different types of questions, what questions are asking them to do (i.e. analyzing characters, word meaning, character feelings, setting, mood, making inferences ...), and identify the key words and vocabulary that they need to know to be able to understand and respond to questions accurately.
