Dr. Daniel Fishbein, Interim Superintendent of Schools, presented LPS' District Goals for 2024-2025 at the Board of Education's public meeting on October 29th. While they are not the only focus of the Board or Administration, these goals are aligned with the 2022-2027 Strategic Plan and represent the areas that the district wants to highlight and prioritize this school year. During his presentation, Dr. Fishbein explained the goals and listed detailed action steps.
TANYA SHAH WINS GRAND PRIZE IN STEM COMPETITION
Livingston High School sophomore Tanya Shah was selected as one of three Grand Prize Winners of the "20 under 20" campaign run by the company "Cle De Peau Beaute" in coordination with "Girls Who Code" to select 20 young women (from all over the USA) who are changing the face of STEM. She is one of the youngest recipients of this award.
Grand prize winners received a trip to New York City to tour the Shiseido Americas Innovation Center, exclusive access to Clé de Peau Beauté’s labs, meetups with top scientists, and grants to support their projects. AUTHOR VISITS MPMS
Mt. Pleasant Middle School students recently had the opportunity to eat lunch in the media center and listen to author Allison Giordano talk about her book, A Trace of Something Stranger. In addition to speaking about her book, she also talked to students about her writing process, and ways to get one’s writing published! This awesome author event included a giveaway, with five of the 38 students who attended the luncheon winning a copy of the book and a chance to take a photo with the author!
ELEMENTARY HAPPENINGS!
In honor of Johnny Appleseed’s birthday, kindergarteners at Harrison made hand puppets and practiced retelling the information they learned about this famous American. The children learned about who John Chapman was, how he got his nickname, and why his story became a folktale.
Two fifth graders were given the opportunity to be "Principals For A Day" at Collins. Shown here, Elizabeth Chan (Mrs. Cebula Clone #1) and Chloe Lee (Mrs. Cebula Clone #2) spent the day shadowing the original Mrs. Cebula!
Students in Mrs. Sonshine’s fifth grade class at Burnet Hill recently created a Unity Tree. The Unity Tree is a powerful symbol reminding everyone that bullying can be prevented when everyone unites in kindness, acceptance and inclusion. Students wrote special unity-themed messages on paper leaves for the tree.
MPE students recently participated in the school's annual Walk-A-Thon. The funds they raised will be donated to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for rare cancer research in honor of Hazel Friedlander, the sister of two MPE students, who is currently receiving treatment for a rare blood cancer.
To celebrate Hillside's 70th anniversary, students across all grade levels wore colorful shirts representing the school's Six Pillars of Character for a special photo. The result was a vibrant display of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship!
First graders in Ms. Melucci's class at Riker Hill participated in a Halloween project incorporating story elements using a book called, The Big Pumpkin. The students enjoyed working together on these group projects.
LHS THEATER PRESENTS "CLUE"
LHS Theater is proud to present CLUE: ON STAGE from November 20-24 in the LHS auditorium! This hilarious farce, based on the 1985 film, begins when six guests assemble for an unusual dinner party where murder and blackmail are on the menu. The story follows all of the favorite characters from the classic board game including Mrs. Peacock, Colonel Mustard, and Professor Plum. CLUE is the comedy whodunit that will leave both cult-fans and newcomers in stitches as they try to figure out... WHO did it, WHERE, and with WHAT!
PROCESS FOR ADDRESSING PARENT CONCERNS
Livingston Public Schools strives to respond to concerns and/or questions as quickly and effectively as possible. In a school system, as in any organization, the “chain of command” refers to communication levels of authority in the school district. The philosophy behind the chart in the link below is to refer community members to those people in the organization who can best solve any concerns or questions that may arise, and then direct them to the appropriate people if issues are not able to be effectively addressed at the first level.
COMMUNICATION TOOLS • SUICIDE LIFELINE • MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT
