Principal Update
- Thank you to all who joined us for our "You Do the Math" Wellness Night. We have over 150 participants. Thank you to the Richmond Swingers Jump Rope Club for joining us too! Thank you to our Family Engagement team for planning it. Snacks were provided through Title I funds.
- Our fourth graders enjoyed their field trip this week for a reenactment of Patrick Henry's "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death" speech. Our fifth graders met with Midlo Middle and Providence Middle to learn about middle school classes. Both groups showed positive behavior and did a great job!
- Did you know that our classes all read the same book each month as part of our One School, One Book initiative? This month classes read, "My Footprints" by Bao Phi. Ms. Hart's class created footprints that they would add to the story. Check out the picture.
- The 100th day of school is THIS WEEK! It is on Friday, February 2, 2024. Students can dress as if they are 100 years old or from 1924 or wear something with 100 items. There will be lots of 100th day activities.
- Do you want to help in the cafeteria during lunch? Then, check out the Lunch Sign Up Genius form! Remember- all volunteers must complete the volunteer form linked below.
- Awards Assemblies are this week. Report cards will be sent home on Friday. Please review them, discuss goals with your student, and contact your student's teacher if you have any questions.
- Check out the PTA section for information about our Family Dance coming up soon!

Awards Assemblies
- 2nd quarter Awards Assemblies will be held this week in our cafeteria. Students who will receive an award should have brought home an invitation.
- Wednesday, January 31, 2024: 10:00 Kindergarten, 2:15 3rd grade
- Thursday, February 1, 2024: 10:00 1st grade, 2:15 4th grade
- Friday, February 2, 2204: 10:00 2nd grade, 2:15 5th grade
School Safety
- As part of our regular drills, we will have a lockdown drill this week. We may pair it with a fire drill. As a reminder, we will not answer the phones or the door during drills.
- Please encourage your student to treat others kindly and use nice words. When they do not, it can lead to bigger issues such as bullying which is always taken seriously. Often, it may turn out to be peer conflict which we also address. The CCPS definition of bullying is: Any aggressive and unwanted behavior that is intended to harm, intimidate, or humiliate the victim; involves a real or perceived power imbalance between the aggressor(s) and victim; and is repeated over time or causes severe emotional trauma.
100th Day of School
- Friday, February 2nd is the 100th day of school! We look forward to seeing how creative our students dress. Dress like you are 100 years old. Wear 100 things. Dress as if you are in 1924. Students may have 100 day projects and will participate in 100 day activities.
SOL Growth Assessment Reports for Grades 3-5
- Beginning February 16th, you will be able to review certain test results from your student’s Winter Growth Test(s) via ParentVUE and also get additional detailed information from a VDOE parent portal.
- To view overall scores, log into ParentVUE and click the “Test History” tab.
- A more detailed breakdown of test results is available by using the Virginia Department of Education Parent Portal. Instructions for accessing this information are also included in your ParentVUE account. Click on the “Documents” tab for instructions and an individual claim code that will grant access to the VDOE parent portal.
- Please keep in mind that VDOE Winter Growth Tests were only taken by students in grades 3-8 for reading and mathematics. Scores and the Parent Portal letter will only be available to students who took a Winter Growth Test.
- If you are not able to access ParentVUE, please let us know.
#Attendance Matters
- This week's attendance ranged from 90%-93% so we saw a slight decline this week. We are seeing a few more students out for illness. We appreciate it when you keep a sick student home. We also appreciate it when students are at school for learning instead of our for other reasons.
- Please remember that it is also important to be at school on time and stay all day!
School Counseling Corner
- Our school counselors provided lessons on growth mindset during library time this week for most classes.
- We could use volunteers for our next Rams Store. Contact Frances_Neal@ccpsnet.net or MaryM_Brown@ccpsnet.net if you are interested in helping.
Please let us know what questions or concerns you might have, and thank you for your time and energy!! ~Ms. Neal and Ms. Brown
American Heart Association Kids Heart Challenge
Hello, Heart Heroes! Are you ready?! Kids Heart Challenge is coming to our school soon! The kickoff event will be on February 5, 2024. We have exciting things planned this year to get us moving, helping others and having fun. Get a head start by signing up today and helping your student choose a daily health challenge. Visit our school page at http://www2.heart.org/goto/ReamsRdElementarySchool
or download the AHA Schools app!
The goal is to raise $2,500 for the American Heart Association but more importantly it is to help families learn Hands-Only CPR. Did you know Hands-Only CPR can double – even triple – a person’s chance of surviving a cardiac arrest? Did you know most cardiac arrests happen at home? Our goal is to help all families learn Hands-Only CPR. It’s quick and easy to learn and could save the life of someone you love. You’ll learn this lifesaving skill when your student completes Finn’s Mission. And when just three participants in your student’s class complete Finn’s Mission, the class will earn a free Recess Kit and every student will get a Kids Heart Challenge heart hero character.
Reminders
- As a reminder, students should be dressed appropriately for school. This includes not wearing crop tops and wearing shoes appropriate for recess and PE.
- Students should keep all electronics, except the school issued Chromebook, at home. All phones should remain in book bags. If a student needs to be picked up, the clinic or office will call the parent/guardian.
- When you complete the volunteer form, approval is given for a certain amount of time. So, you may need to complete the form again before the end of the year.
Reams Parent Teacher Association
PTA Family Dance:
- We love building community through our PTA events. Friday, February 9th is our Family Dance from 6:00-8:00 p.m. This event is free for our Reams families. An adult family member must attend with the student.
- We need your help to make this event successful through food donations and volunteers. Just sign up on the Reams 2024 Valentine's Family Dance sign up genius.
PTA School Store Fundraiser:
- This is the easiest fundraiser of all! Just register your child online and return the form with the online code. Then, your child will be given a cool prize. The best part is School Store offers an opportunity for teachers to receive funds towards classroom resources through donations.
- You may also visit SchoolStore.com. All fundraisers are optional.
- Thank you for the participation so far! We appreciate the gift card donations to teachers which they use for classroom resources.

CCPS Budget Season
Budget season for Chesterfield County Public Schools began Jan. 23 when Superintendent Mervin B. Daugherty presented his budget proposal to the Chesterfield County School Board during a work session. Budget information is available on the school system’s website, including the budget presentation to the School Board.
Public meetings throughout January and February offer opportunities to learn about the FY 2025 budget and speak up about priorities. We are sharing the date/time for the closest town hall for our area.
A budget town hall will take place at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 29 at Clover Hill High (13301 Kelly Green Lane), which is in the Clover Hill District.
