Reynolds' Report
Hello Roadrunner Families!
As the weather heats up, we are noticing that many of our students are coming to school in sweaters, and then leaving them behind at the end of the day. Be sure to stop by to check our lost and found for any items your child may have left behind, from lunchboxes and water bottles, to sweaters and jackets. We are overflowing with lost items!
This week, we hope you will be able to join us for our Art Show and Movie Night! Our incredible art docent Ms. Christine has been working with your students to create movie themed art pieces that will be on display in our cafeteria starting at 5:00pm.
We will then have a showing of Minions: The Rise of Gru showing from 5:30-7:00pm out on the blacktop. Bring your own chairs or blankets, and maybe even a picnic dinner to enjoy! We will have some tasty popcorn for you to share! We hope you can join us!
I hope you have an incredible week, Roadrunners!

Topic of the Week
Topic of the Week: Roadrunners Use Our Strategies!
The last weeks of school are always a whirlwind and are full of many different emotions for our students. In this week's assembly, we reviewed the strategies we learned at the beginning of the year for managing big and uncomfortable emotions!
We reviewed our three deep breathing strategies:
- Elevator Breathing
- Candle Breathing
- Four Square Breathing
We reviewed how to ask for help from an adult:
- I am feeling ______, can I go talk to ___ a safe adult___?
- This is really hard, can you help me?
- I have a problem, can you help me solve it?
We reviewed writing it down or drawing a picture:
Use these sentence starters:
- I am feeling… because…
- When… happens, I feel…
OR
- Draw what happened
- Draw what you think your emotion looks like
- Draw something that makes you feel happy
We reviewed how to ask to use the sensory path:
- Always ask before you leave your classroom.
- Return to class as soon as you are finished!
We reviewed the 3, 2, 1 strategy:
- Look around and name three things you see
- Listen to two things that you hear
- Notice one thing you feel
We reviewed the steps to a body scan:
- Take three deep breaths and notice how you feel.
- Now, start by squeezing your toes really tight.
- Now let them go.
- Then, squeeze your legs really tight.
- Now let them go.
- Squeeze your shoulders really tight.
- Then let them go.
- Squeeze your arms really tight.
- And let them go.
- Then, squeeze your hands really tight.
- Now, squeeze your face.
- And let it go.
- Now take three deep breaths to notice how you feel.
And, we reviewed how to use our muscles to help manage our feelings:
- Try wall push-ups or floor push ups
- Push a heavy box across the room, with permission!
- Rocket jumps
- Deliver books
While the countdown to summer is very exciting for many of our students, others of our students feel a lot of big feelings about leaving school for summer. It is a good reminder for all of us to know the different tools we have to help feel more calm when we feel a big feeling!

2024-2025 Enrollment is Open!
Registration for the 2024-2025 school year is now open! Please spread the word to anyone you know who has a new student, an incoming TK student, or an incoming Kinder student. They can find the link to register here: https://www.wpusd.org/in-our-schools/enrollment/new-student-registration/next-year-2024-2025
If your student currently attends First Street School on an intra-district transfer, you will need to request to have their intra-district transfer renewed each year. This process will open on January 19th. The link to submit your intra-district transfer can be found here: https://www.wpusd.org/in-our-schools/enrollment/transfers/intra-district-transfers
Students who currently attend First Street School and live in the First Street School boundaries do not need to do anything with registration. GATE students also do not need to submit an intra-district transfer as their enrollment rolls forward year over year at First Street School.
