School Call News
Please remember to keep Mr. Wintrone and his family in your prayers as he deliberates the divine call that he has received to teach next year at Peace Lutheran School in Sun Prairie, WI. He is being asked to be the homeroom teacher for 7th grade and serve in a departmentalized setting while also serving as the school’s technology director. Please feel free to contact him and share your insights as to where he can best serve. May the Lord guide his thought process and lead him to clearly see where he can best use his talents to serve his Savior.
St. John congregation held a voters’ meeting on Sunday, January 5. With the Holy Spirit’s guidance, they called Celia Tucek to serve as our 5th-6th grade teacher starting next school year.
Celia graduated from Martin Luther College mid-year 2021. She spent the rest of that year serving as a Kindergarten teacher in her home congregation since there had been an unexpected teacher resignation at the school. That spring she was assigned to St. Philip's Lutheran School in Milwaukee, WI for a 1-year call. She taught 5th grade at that inner-city school. During that year she made plans to get married to her fiance who was living in Illinois. She was then called to teach grades K-2 at Good Shepherd Lutheran School in Downers Grove, IL. She is currently serving her second year at Good Shepherd.
Her husband is a PGA golf professional at a country club in Glenview, IL. They are expecting their first child in mid July, but she desires to continue teaching full time after her maternity leave.
Please keep Celia and her husband in your prayers as she contemplates the call that we have extended to her. We are so thankful that Mr. Kopczynski and Mrs. Johnson have been willing to help us out through the end of the year by teaching our 5th and 6th graders, and it will be a great blessing to secure a full-time teacher for the future. May the Lord bless her deliberations and, God-willing, move her to accept our call and join our staff here at St. John. If you would like to introduce yourself, feel free to contact her via email at celia.fulton@gsdg.org.
Lutheran School Sunday
Join us Sunday, January 26, in celebrating more than 50 years of Lutheran Education at St. John. We start the day with our preschool through 8th grade school children singing in our 9 a.m. worship service. That will be followed with a school open house after church. This will give you a chance to visit with the teachers, check out the classrooms, vote for this year's yearbook cover, and participate in a School Scavenger Hunt. We will then head down to our fellowship area for our annual Chili Cook-Off at 11 a.m. The event is free to attend. RSVP and sign up to compete in the cook-off at www.stjohnslib.com/rsvp . We have space for 14 chefs! We also have hot prizes for the best chili. Please plan to join us!

New Bible Information Class
Bible Information Class is a series of 18 lessons that covers the basic doctrines of our Lutheran church. Participating is a great way to learn more about what we teach at St. John and get a better understanding of Scripture. Some take the class simply to learn more, and some take the class with the desire to eventually become members at St. John.
It does take a bit of a commitment, but we try to help out by offering a class on Tuesday evenings via Zoom. This allows parents to stay home and not worry about child care or traveling back to St. John in the evening. In-person options are also possible based on participants’ interest. Mr. Retzlaff conducts these classes, so if you are interested in signing up or just investigating the possibility, please contact him at david.retzlaff@stjohnslib.com. A new round of classes is scheduled to begin during the week of January 26.
