Miller Elementary Weekly Update
April 20, 2024
Mrs. Goodman's Message
Hello Miller Families!
On April 17th, the State of Ohio made a proclamation to honor and recognize the importance of Assistive Technology by declaring this day as Assistive Technology (AT) Awareness Day. At Miller, we utilize AT for many of our learners to help children gain a voice, express their wants and needs, enhance their hearing, enhance their mobility and to help children continue to gain more independence! What is Assistive Technology? Assistive Technology (AT) is any item, piece of equipment, software program or product systems that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of people with disabilities. It is important to raise awareness about the use of AT in our classrooms, homes and within our community. Children at this young age will often ask questions about how these items work and why children or adults use them. Providing awareness and answers will better help them understand that with some accommodations and adaptations, we can create more independence and success for all!
We want to remind all our kindergarten families that we will be taking a short field trip to Aurora High School on Monday, April 22nd where our children will be enjoying Earth Day activities created by our high school learners! They will be hearing stories, creating some crafts and learning about taking care of our Earth. We are looking forward to this first-time collaboration!
9:30-10:30 - (Buettin, Forster, Gallucci, Haughey, Kidwell, Verhotz AM)
1:00-2:00 - (Jaworski, Sabulsky, Smerkar, Yonally, Verhotz PM)
We also are looking forward to celebrating Mrs. Wolf, our school secretary, this Wednesday, April 24th for National Administrative Professionals Day! Please join us and have your child write a note or color a picture to drop off to Mrs. Wolf on Wednesday!
Lastly, please remember there is NO SCHOOL this upcoming FRIDAY, APRIL 26th.
Have a great weekend!
Kindly,
Maria Goodman

All Kids Bike Program
Miller Elementary was recently awarded a generous grant from the Aurora Schools Foundation and the Aurora Elementary PTO for the All Kids Bike Program which will start next week for our current kindergarten children. We have sent home a detailed letter explaining all the details and the excitement that lies ahead. We want to thank the PTO and ASF for not only sponsoring this program but assisting with assembling the bikes!
Welcome to Craddock Incoming 1st Graders!
Greetings Parents of Incoming 1st Graders!
As we begin the process of wrapping up the current school year, we can't help but begin to think about next year. Part of that process is the formulation of class placements. Class placements are constructed in a very particular manner, using data and input from the educational experts at Miller, Craddock and Leighton. We take many factors into consideration when making these decisions and feel it is very important that your input is utilized as well. You know your child best!
Although I cannot guarantee specific teacher requests will be granted due to a number of different factors, it is important to have as much information about each child as possible before the class list-making process gets underway. We recognize that parents/guardians are a valuable source of information to add to our knowledge about what works best for each child. Your information will be very helpful as we determine your child's placement for the 24-25 school year.
If you are interested in having some input, please fill out the following information and submit this form by Friday, May 10, 2024. Any feedback received after that date may not be able to be considered. You are also welcome to call or set up an appointment to speak with me specifically about your thoughts and concerns. I can be reached by email at kmstewart@aurora-schools.org or by phone at 330-562-3175. Thank you!

Extra Clothes
With the warmer temperatures this week, our students enjoyed some messy recess time! Although we make parts of our outdoor play areas off-limits, little children seem to find the mud from time to time.
1: Please make sure your child has a change of clothes in their backpack. This includes extra socks and underwear. They often feel more comfortable in their own clothing.
2: Our clinic is running low on pants. If your family has a pair of girls or boys pants that your child has out grown and you would be willing to donate to our school, we would appreciate any donations. Please send in washed items labeled "Extra Clinic Clothes" and we will put them to good use. Thank you!
Miller Parent Pick-Up and Attendance Reporting
This is a reminder that we are using our Miller Attendance and Parent Pick-up Form as an easy communication tool to report your child will be absent or you need to pick them up from school early. You still need to use the Alternative Bus Stop Form linked in this newsletter if you need your child's bus to change. You do not need to report if they will not be riding the bus in the morning due to an absence or illness on this form.
If you want to change your child from a bus rider to a parent pick-up, please scan the QR code below or click the button to fill out our Google form. This can be done from any device and your reply will be sent immediately to our secretary, Mrs. Wolf.
If you need an alternative bus stop or a change in busing, we also have attached the transportation forms to change your child's busing information. These forms need to be completed and sent to our transportation department at transportationinfo@aurora-schools.org
As a reminder, you can send in cash or check made out to the Aurora City Schools and we will add any amount to your child's lunch account. Please send in money in a clearly labeled envelope so we know to add this amount to your child's account!
