September 6, 2024
Hello Spicewood Families,
September has already been kind to us! We are loving these cooler temperatures especially during recess! We have several big events coming up in the next few weeks so please read through and mark your calendars.
Next week we will have our Parent Orientation night where parents will come to their child's classrooms at the designated time and learn more about the day to day instruction and grade level specific information. We encourage this to be a parent only event and are looking forward to seeing many of you here.
Have a great weekend and enjoy these fall (ish) temps!
Sincerely,
Melanie Solis

Congratulations Mrs. Robinson!
Mrs. Robinson received a grant from the PIE Foundation to support all kindergarten students at Spicewood! PIE stands for Partners in Education.
The grant is for Slumberkins which is a social-emotional learning curriculum, that is designed to support a positive classroom environment and build a strong home-school connection to help children thrive. This curriculum including books, characters, games and other resources will help the youngest students on our campus develop a strong and stable SEL foundation which can lead to a positive school culture and empower our learners to feel valued and confident of their worth.
IB at Spicewood
IB Students as Inquirers
IB stands for International Baccalaureate, but I often think it could also stand for inquiry-based. Inquiry at the heart of everything we do here at Spicewood! Humans are natural inquirers, and we use that to guide our teaching and learning. What are students naturally curious about? How can we connect to their curiosities? We explore themes such as How the World Works, Who We Are, and Where We Are in Place and Time.
We also feature some of our students’ curiosities on our weekly ‘Wondering Wednesday’ Broadcast segments. This week’s Wondering Wednesday question was prompted by Ms. Cimo, our IB Coordinator (the one who write this section. 🙂) Although students are usually the ones asking the questions, check out their responses to the question, “What do you love about Spicewood?” Follow us on Instagram @spicewoodworldschool to see more inquiry happening at Spicewood!
Chess Club
Did you know that Spicewood has a very robust chess club? Please see the flyer below if your child is interested in becoming a member!

Carnival Volunteers Needed!
Hello Spicewood Families!
We are looking for parents and community members to sign up to help at our school Carnival on September 27th.
There are two ways to help! We need volunteers to donate 1 hour of time on the afternoon of the carnival to ensure we are able to make the event fun and memorable for everyone. Here is the link to sign up to help at the carnival.
We also need volunteers to send in sweet treats for the cake walk. This is one of our most popular attractions so we need lots of prizes for the kids (and adults too). Here is the link to sign up to bring a sweet treat for the cake walk.
It truly takes all of us to help make these events a success and our students love attending the Spicewood Carnival! There will be a PTA table set up at Parent Orientation

Hello Spicewood Families!!
We are all looking forward to another wonderful 2024/2025 school year at Spicewood!! It's that time of year again to sign up for the PTA!
Spicewood is a school that is considerably reliant on its community. Every parent has a talent, skill, passion, or time. We rely on those skills to help keep our students in an unique education. Our PTA funds and runs a lot of the programs our students participate in, our teachers use, and our IB community thrives. It is with your PTA membership and support that we are able to give our Teachers and Students incredible support throughout the school year. Please consider signing you, your partner and your children up today!
