Thank you to those of you who were able to attend this morning's Tea with Mr. G. We talked about students and technology: cell phones, social media, and how technology affects children both positively and negatively. If you have any questions about what this looks like at Irvington, just let me know. And if you're looking for resources to learn more about your role in supporting your child with phones and social media, I encourage you to check out Common Sense Media and the Wait Until 8th campaign.

The next is TONIGHT and we’ll be showing Abominable. See all the details below:

• Where: School cafeteria.

• When: Friday, December 6. Doors open and disco party at 6:15pm, movie begins at 6:30pm. Use the cafeteria doors behind the school for entry/exit.

• Who: Irvington students and their families. Children MUST be accompanied by an adult.

• Food and Drink: Free popcorn provided! Please bring your own water bottles filled with water only. Picnic dinners are okay, too. Thank you in advance for cleaning up after yourselves.

• Seating: Bring a blanket or camp chair to sit on. Cafeteria tables are also available.

• Disco: Enjoy some fun lights, music and dancing before the show and during a short intermission.

Winter term class offerings are now posted online at www.irvingtonschool.com/afterschool/. Registration opens Monday, December 9, at 6pm and will be open until the following Monday, December 16. An email will be sent at that time with links to registration pages. Many classes fill very quickly, so start planning now!

Scholarships are available and provided by the PTA! All students who qualify for free/reduced lunch also qualify for PTA scholarships. Because breakfast and lunch are free for ALL students this year, scholarships will be given to those who qualify according to the prior PPS criteria. Please see the application for details, which can be found here, on our website, or in the school office. We encourage you to fill out an application as soon as possible for better likelihood of getting your first choice. Each qualified student is eligible for a scholarship for ONE after school activity per term (one activity each: Fall, Winter and Spring terms) for a total of 3 activities per year. Please email scholarship@irvingtonschool.com with any questions.

The next restaurant fundraiser night is next Tuesday, December 10, from 11am-8pm at Cha Cha Cha. Dine in or take out from the 2635 NE Broadway location and 15% of orders will be donated back to Irvington! Go to www.chabroadway.com/ for the menu and call 503-288-1045 to order. Third party delivery apps don’t count.

The first winter recycling event will be held Tuesday, December 17, at drop off and pick up. Empty your hard to recycle stash of items and continue to save during winter break because there will be a second collection January 8. The Green Team will recycle your styrofoam, light bulbs, electronics, empty Rx bottles, holiday string lights, and more. See the complete list here.

December is a busy time for everyone, and we have fewer people signed up to help serve lunch…so, if you’ve been thinking of volunteering, now would be a great time! Please consider volunteering for a slot before the winter break. CLICK HERE to sign up!
