👉 Restrict Access: Create Links in Canvas
✅ Require students to enter your Canvas class via the Zoom link located in your course navigation. (Don't see it? It may be hidden...unhide it. Avoid using your Personal Meeting ID (PMI) for the classroom course link. Your PMI is essentially one continuous meeting, and "people" can pop in and out all the time.
✅ Easily create a recurring Zoom meeting link for your Canvas course weekly meetings for the semester in advance. Directions here
✅ Most importantly... do not share 🚫 Zoom links on social media (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc). New York Tech does not permit Zoom links to be shared on social media or another public location.
📌 Use only your New York Tech email address for Zoom accounts!
Students: Only New York Tech email addresses are permitted for basic Zoom accounts. 😀
Faculty: Should students attempt to rename their email accounts. Click the below button to watch how to prevent it.
📌 Where is my Zoom video in Canvas?
...It's simple and E-A-S-Y (we promise 😃)!
STUDENTS: Basic Account: Do not have the ability to record to the cloud. It will record to your local device and meetings are capped at 40 minutes.
Preventing Zoom Bombing 💣💥
What is Zoom-Bombing?
Zoom-bombing is the term for individuals who "crash" Zoom meetings. Uninvited guests share their screens to bombard real attendees with disturbing or distracting content. Most attacks exploit publicly available Zoom links. Depending on your personal settings, however, some ostensibly private classroom meetings may also be vulnerable. This SMORE will help you ensure your classrooms are safely protected and are set up to prevent unwanted interruptions.
⚙️ Adjusting Your Zoom Settings to Prevent Zoom Bombing
- Go to nyit.zoom.us, sign in, and click settings.
- From there, scroll down to the Only Authenticated Users can Join Meetings option and toggle that on.
- Choose only NYIT Users as your default setting (see image below).
3. Disable Participant Screen Sharing: Navigate to nyit.zoom.us to adjust your in-meeting (basic) settings to disable participant screen sharing by default. During the meeting, you can turn this back on by using the security badge in the Zoom toolbar.

By clicking Security, you can:
- Lock Meeting: Locks the meeting, keeping new participants from joining the meeting.
- Enable Waiting Room: Enables Waiting Room for incoming new participants or to move current participants into the Waiting Room.
- Hide Profile Pictures: Hide all profile pictures, including the host. Display names are shown instead.
- Share Screen: Allows participants to share their screens.
- Chat: Allows participants to use the chat function.
- Rename Themselves: Allows participants to rename themselves from the Participants panel.
- Unmute Themselves: Allows participants to unmute themselves without the host's permission.

- Annotate on Shared Content: Allows participants to annotate over content shared during the meeting. The host can enable or disable annotation when the host is sharing.
- Remove Participant: Allows the removal of a participant from a meeting. The participant can not re-join unless Allow removed participants to rejoin is enabled in Meeting settings.
- Report: Allows you to report a user to Zoom's Trust and Safety team. You will be able to select which user to report and provide details about the problem. You can also upload evidence, such as screenshots.
- Suspend Participant Activities: Turn off all participant's video, audio, Zoom Apps, and ability to share their screen. Also lock the meeting to prevent participants from joining. This will apply to all participants, including those joined using a Zoom Room.
