Dear Families,
What a variable week it has been in terms of weather. I happened into the K/1 classroom yesterday during one of the snow squalls. The students were mesmerized by it and, because they are studying weather and learning about measuring temperature, they were a bit befuddled by how it could possibly be snowing when it was 390F. A wonderful provocation to grapple with.
Next Wednesday morning we will be hosting 10-12 guests from the Republic of Georgia. As part of a Project Harmony initiative they are in Middlebury to meet with the Middlebury College Ed Studies Dept. to learn about our pre-service teacher training program. Their day includes a visit to Weybridge, attending education courses at the College, and meeting with the faculty and ed studies students.
4/5 French - Ophelia has a conflict of schedules so there will be no more French classes at least through April vacation. Stay tuned. Ophelia plans to schedule a closing session.
VTCAP state assessments grade 3-5 - I have posted the schedule below. The tests are not timed and students can work on them over several days, taking breaks as needed. The tests are also computer adaptive, adjusting to the individual student so they are working on tasks that match their mastery level.
Please make every effort to have your child in school for the scheduled assessment times. While they can make up the assessments, it means they are out of synch with their classmates and missing instruction. Please see linked letter.
Draft assessment schedule:
Tuesday-Friday, April 2-5 - 4/5 VTCAP - ELA and Math
Tuesday, 4/2 - ELA 8:30-9:45

Thursday, 4/11 - Math 9:15-10:15

Lunch volunteers - We’ve had full cover the last two weeks! Next week we need coverage for Wednesday Friday. Please email me cjohnston@acsdvt.org if you can help with lunch prep and service, 11:00-12:00 in March and April. Even one day helps. Those of you who have volunteered before, can go into the google doc and sign up. Thank you!
Reminder - When you come in for conferences, please take time to look at the student work displayed in the hallways.
Warmly, Christina

A preschool interest survey is available here. Families should complete the interest survey before the end of the month to be considered for a preschool opening. The preschool program has classrooms at Mary Hogan and Bridport schools.
Ilsley Library Challenge
Ilsley Public Library is challenging the youth in our ACSD community to read 15 titles from the various local and state youth book award lists (Red Clover, Golden Dome, Midd Reads, and Green Mountain) between January 1st and March 31st. Tracking sheets will be sent home today. Youth who read 15 books will earn a ticket to a special movie showing at the Marquis Theater in April! (Weybridge will make sure everyone who qualifies has transportation to the event.)
