Meadows Message from Mrs. Krz
April 4, 2025
Dear Meadows Community,
It is my pleasure to honor two fifth grade students in this week's message: Colin L. and Hazel K. Please read below about how we celebrated them at the Manhattan Beach Coordinating Council this week. Also, in this newsletter that is packed full of events, you will notice that I have included links for how to play the Cat's Cradle string game with your kids and how to learn the new hand-clapping games that we have been playing. I hope you enjoy them as much as the students have!
I have also included the template for "How We Apologize at Meadows" for you to use at home. This is not a worksheet for students to fill in, but rather a guide in how to prompt your child to verbally apologize for their actions. It is my hope that we can all use the same format so that we are reinforcing how to take responsibility for your actions and how to accept or not accept an apology. Most importantly, it helps a child to feel heard, understood, and sets the groundwork for moving forward after a setback.

Students were joined by their families and their teachers, Mrs. Michelle Legaspi and Mrs. Barbara Gregorio. They were both awarded several certificates from the MB City Council, MBUSD Superintendent Dr. John Bowes, and from state legistature. They were both gracious and mature in their acceptance and recognition of their achievements. Congratulations, Scholars!

Template: How we Apologize at Meadows
Our staff has agreed upon this template for how to guide students to apologize to each other when an infraction has occurred. This is not meant to be filled out on paper, but rather a way to have them verbally apologize with prompting. We are hoping that you will use this same manner for apologizing at home so we are using similar models.
We find that it works best if:
- Students face each other during this exchange.
- Students look at each other during the conversation.
- Students do not just say, "That's okay," but instead decide whether or not they actually accept the apology given at that time.
- Students take responsibility for their actions.
- Students feel HEARD if their feelings or body was hurt.
Cat's Cradle String Game
