A FEW PRINCIPAL UPDATES
*CROCS/SLIDES - We talked about this the other day, so just thought I'd share. If your kids like to run around during recess (which most of them do), CROCS/SLIDES aren't the safest shoes to be wearing to school. We also like to make sure that regardless of what shoes they wear, that they always have a pair that they can wear to PE class.
*COMMUNICATIONS/PICK-UPS - if there are going to be any early pick-ups or changes to pick-ups, please email egilfert@d64.org, hlarson@d64.org and your child's teacher. If you just email your child's teacher, it is likely they will not see it as they are teaching during the day. Also, if you are picking up your child early for an appointment, please try to avoid 11:40-12:35 (M,T,TH,F) or 11:15-12:15 (W). The kids are outside and it becomes challenging to locate them specifically during recess.
*LUNCHTIME ADJUSTMENTS - as an fyi, we are changing our K/2nd grade lunch times and making some timing adjustments to K/1st grade. Kindergarteners will now eat at 12:05 and 2nd Grade will eat at 11:40. Our K/1st grade students will now not go back outside after their lunch (recess is 11:40-12:05, eat from 12:10-12:35. Previously, we were letting kids go back outside when they finished their lunch). We found that they were rushing too much for extra play time (who could blame them?). This is also providing more time for bathroom needs, etc.
*BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS- one of our school goals is focused on student behavior. This week we will be surveying our students on their thoughts about our school and behaviors to hear their voice. It also will become a springboard for discussion/activity that we have with them during our November Den.
