What Our Lions Are Learning

In 6th grade, our Lions are studying data sets in Math, learning about Byzantium in Social Studies, studying the layers of the earth in Science, and working on their adventure unit in ELA.

In 7th grade, our Lions are studying organ systems in Science, working with angles in Math, talking about the Cold War in Social Studies, and reading about Civil Rights movements in ELA.

In 8th grade, our Lions are learning about the Cold War in Social Studies, working on poetry in ELA, studying biotechnology in Science, and working with equations in Math.

Engage with ELA at Home!

It's the final quarter! Time to put the reading strategies students have learned all year to the test on the EOG and at home. Look at the SMART strategies below. Talk about each one with your student and practice with the passage linked here or any text you choose. It could even be a post on Instagram! What do they see when they scan the passage? What predictions can they make? What text features do they see? Can they underline important phrases or unfamiliar vocabulary words?

Math Moments

At Swann, we use Open Up math resources to deliver rigorous, standards-based core math instruction. You can also access all these resources at home to help your child practice their math and see what they are working on in class! As we move towards EOGs, consider challenging your student with practice problems each evening, perhaps as part of your dinner time conversation. You can find an entire tests here:

Character Trait of the Month

This month, the Swann Pride is focusing on CARING! Watch this video about caring with your child. What are some ways they show caring and kindness at home? At school? In your personal life? What are some examples of people being kind to others? Brainstorm some random acts of kindness that you and your student commit to completing in April. Send Dr. Bocci your examples and she will shout them out in future newsletters to give others ideas of how to spread caring in the world!

As temperatures rise, we ask that families help us help our kids stay cool. Encourage them to bring a water bottle to school each day and wear weather-appropriate clothing (within dress code, of course). Hoodies and hot temperatures can spell disaster!
