June 2025
Dear Skamania Families,
As we close this remarkable school year, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to each of you for your incredible support, partnership, and dedication. Together, we have created a vibrant and nurturing community where our students have thrived academically, socially, and personally. It has been such a privilege to witness their growth and achievements throughout the year, and I am truly grateful to be part of this journey with you.
Please join us for the PTO meeting on Tuesday, June 3rd! After the regular meeting, a representative from Scouts of America will share exciting information about a potential partnership with the PTO and plans to expand scouting opportunities in our area. This presentation is for both adults and kids interested in learning about the rewarding experiences scouting offers. Don’t miss this chance to discover more about this valuable organization—see you there!
Special Note: Yearbooks have arrived! We will distribute them on Friday, 6/6. Each yearbook includes a signature page in the back, giving students the opportunity to collect signatures from their peers. If you do NOT want your child to participate in signing, please inform them ahead of time. If you prefer to pick up your child's yearbook personally instead of having it sent home with them, please notify Mrs. Chavarria.
I am thrilled to announce our upcoming Graduation Celebrations on Tuesday, June 10th! These ceremonies mark important milestones for our students and families, and I look forward to celebrating these special moments together. The TK and Kindergarten Graduation will begin promptly at 12:30 PM, followed by the Eighth Grade Promotion at 1:30 PM. These events honor the hard work and dedication our students have shown and offer a wonderful opportunity to reflect on their accomplishments and exciting next steps.
Following graduation day, we have our much-anticipated Field Day Celebration on June 11th. This event is always a highlight of the year, filled with fun activities, teamwork, and school spirit. It’s a fantastic way for students to enjoy the outdoors, build friendships, and celebrate the joy of being part of the Skamania community.
Our last day of school on June 12th will be a joyful wrap-up filled with class parties and special recognitions. Please remember that dismissal on this day will be at 10:00 AM to allow everyone to start summer on a bright and happy note. This day is a perfect way to celebrate all of our students’ accomplishments and the wonderful memories we've created together.
Finally, we are saddened to announce the passing of Angus Anderson on May 30 at age 83. Angus served twelve years on the Skamania Board, significantly impacting the district with his school budgeting expertise and active involvement in school events. The Board will now begin appointing his successor, honoring his lasting commitment and presence.
Thank you once again for an incredible school year. Your support and involvement have made all the difference, and I wish you and your families a safe, relaxing, and joyful summer. I look forward to welcoming you back next year for more learning, growth, and celebration!
Warmly,
Katie Chavarria

- Gum is not allowed at school. Please help to remind your child of this policy.
Star Students of the Month
May's character trait of the month was integrity! Integrity means being honest, doing the right thing even when no one is watching, and standing by your values with consistency and courage. Throughout last month, our teachers encouraged students to practice integrity in their daily actions, make ethical choices, and build trust through honesty and responsibility.
We are proudly highlighting one exceptional student from each class who exemplified outstanding integrity in their behavior and decisions. These students serve as role models, showing how integrity can create a more trustworthy and respectful school environment.

1/2 - Addie C.
3rd - Huck C.
4th - Paityn A.

What is Child Developmental Screening?
Children are screened in the areas of motor, concepts, speech and language. A hearing and vision screening may also be done. A developmental screening can identify children who are in need of further evaluation and/or participation in Early Intervention or Early Childhood Services that address their areas of need.
Early Intervention (EI) Benefits
- Early identification and implementation of services during the most crucial time in your child’s brain development.
- Services are designed for children in the natural environment of their homes, in child care, or in preschool programs.
- Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) is a written plan for services to eligible children and families.
- Transition Plan prior to age 3 is a plan developed for your child when leaving early intervention at age three.
Skamania School District is part of the ESA, making these services available to our families. Please visit this link for more information: https://www.esd112.org/category/programs/early-intervention/
