This Week In Band
Required May Camps (May 28-31)
All students in the 2024-2025 Band & Colorguard are required to be at our May camps the week of May 28th. Please see details below. Attendance is required at all May camps. We will make decisions on contest spots show based on attendance at May and summer camps.
All Percussion & Guard students are required to have their physicals completed and submitted on the first day of your May camp days; see the next announcement for details.
BRASS & WOODWINDS
- Enter & Exit the AHS Performing Arts Center
- You will need your IDs to enter the school (Middle School IDs for incoming 9th graders)
- You do not need your physicals for May Camp; you will need them in the summer
- Current 8th grade & current LFC students will pick-up their instruments at May Camp
- Bring your instrument and a pencil to music camp. We will check out instruments to incoming 9th-10th grade students (tubas, euphoniums, double reeds, low reeds).
- Tuba players should bring their tubas; we will check out Sousaphones in July.
- We will pass out music for everyone. This is an indoor music camp.

PERCUSSION

COLORGUARD
- Location: Curtis Middle School Gym
- You will need your IDs to enter the school (Middle School IDs for incoming 9th graders)
- You will need your physicals for May Camp

STUDENT LEADERSHIP TEAM (SLT)
- This camp is only for the following SLTs
- Brass/Woodwind Section & Squad Leaders
- Colorguard SLTs
- NO QUARTERMASTER, BAND COUNCIL, OR PERCUSSION LEADERSHIP
- Enter & exit the AHS Band Hall (Door 29)
- Dates & Times
- Thurs, May 30: 1pm-6pm
- Fri, May 31: 9am-3pm
Final Registration Day: Sat, July 27
If you missed our two registration days, you will be required to register during uniform fitting on Saturday, July 27th. We have already ordered gear for students that went to registration day. Once all the remaining students are registered, we will order the remaining gear for the 24-25 season.
Students that register on Saturday, July 27th may be assigned an alternate spot in the contest show regardless of evaluation. The reason is because your contest show gear may not arrive in time for our first performance of the contest show this fall.
Some people are wondering why we don't release a link to pay fees. We tried an online registration process a few years ago and were unsuccessful.
- We were continually chasing fees through the entire marching season even with imposed deadlines.
- We had inaccurate orders because families didn't really know what they needed.
- We had to make multiple orders causing excessive inefficiencies.
- We paid for items at higher costs because we couldn't take advantage of bulk purchases (when making multiple orders).
- Families refused paying the SchoolPay fees online and came in person to turn payments in anyways.
- Working out issues with payments and obligations in-person is more accurate and efficient.
- We do not have a large staff available to handle the volume of online processing; we rely on dozens of volunteers to help process orders in-person.
Required Physicals for 2024-2025
All students in the 2024-2025 band and guard program are required to submit the UIL Pre-Participation Form (physicals). They are required prior to the first summer rehearsal of the 2024-2025 season. The exam must take place and be dated after May 1, 2024. You can go to your primary physician (with the UIL Pre-Participation form) or places like CareNow for a sports physical. If you already have a form for 2024-2025 Athletics, you can share a copy of that form with us. If you do not provide a form on the dates below, you will not be allowed to participate in rehearsal. Once you provide the required form, you will be able to participate.
Please bring completed forms in-person no sooner than on these dates. We will not accept them early or through an email/scan. There will be a collection table as students arrive rehearsal.
- Colorguard: May 28 (first summer colorguard practice)
- Percussion: May 28 (first summer percussion practice)
- Brass/Woodwinds: July 23 (first day of summer band camp)
Congratulations 2024-2025 SLTs and Band Council
Congratulations to all students that tried out for an SLT or Band Council position with the 2024-2025 Season. Candidates for quartermaster will be contact this week.
Remember that you are required to be at all of our SLT Summer Training and Workshops. These dates were announced after Spring Break when we started our spring leadership workshops; you should have already cleared these dates (you may not leave early or arrive late).
UPDATE (5/19): The only leadership groups to report to May Training are: Brass/Woodwind Section/Squad Leaders, Colorguard leadership, and drum majors. Band council, percussion leaders, and quartermasters will report to the summer leadership training on Monday, July 22.
