Meadowbrook News
May 12, 2023
From Mrs. Sawatzky
Good afternoon Meadowbrook,
Thank you for all of the ways you showed your appreciation for our awesome staff this week. The food and treats, notes, and words of appreciation warmed our hearts!
After much consideration, we've decided that we will not continue the multi-age classrooms for the 2023-24 school year. Meadowbrook has approached our multi-age program from a place of opportunity rather than necessity. Mrs. Juba and Mrs. Olson have recently decided to pursue other opportunities closer to their homes in order to make more time for their young families. Staffing multi-age classrooms with teachers who choose to teach with this approach has been one strength of our program, but with this change we feel this decision is best for our school.
I am excited for both Outdoor Movie Night and Run Meadowbrook Run next week! In order to make these events successful, we need volunteers! Please see details for both events below.
Lastly, with the nice weather more students have been riding their bikes to school - yay! Please help your children know that they should wear a bike helmet, stay on the sidewalks, and watch for cars when crossing the street.
In partnership,
Natalie
PS - Don't forget when you buy a Culver's Concrete Mixer between Sunday, May 15 and Sunday, May 21, Culver's donates $1.00 to the PTO!
May is Mental Health Awareness Month
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Below are some suggestions to help support children’s mental health and to create lifelong healthy habits.
How to Support a Child’s Mental Health:
- Model healthy coping skills- You can help your children learn how to deal with their emotions in a healthy way by modeling coping skills at home. You can engage in these skills with your child or talk them through doing them on their own. Activities such as deep breathing, using stress balls, making art (painting, coloring, doodling) or going for walks can be great strategies for coping with feelings.
- Provide positive feedback and encouragement - Kids love to receive positive feedback and learn that they’ve done something well. Knowing they’ve done something well increases feelings of pride and confidence, which can stick with a child long term. In addition, providing positive reinforcement for behaviors will often encourage children to repeat that behavior.
Create a routine and set clear boundaries at home - Uncertainty about day-to-day schedules can lead to a lot of stress or anxiety in a child’s life. Creating a general routine at home can provide some relief and peace for your child, whether it’s a schedule for daily meals or a weekly movie night. Having clear boundaries is also important for your child to know what is expected of them at home and can minimize feelings of frustration from both parent and child.

Attention 6th Grade Caregivers
The last day of school is quickly approaching and we still need your help to ensure the 6th grade celebration is a success. Here’s what we need from you:
- DONATIONS: The celebration is funded primarily through donations. A $25-$30 donation will help contribute to food, activities, busing and a class gift for your students. We understand some families will not be able to contribute and that’s totally OK! If others are able to pitch in a little extra, it is much appreciated.
- We are also looking for donations in the way of beverages, food and activities. We have created an Amazon Wishlist to make purchasing easier: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2LH8B3N17BA33?ref_=wl_share
- VOLUNTEERS: We would love some help on the last day of school. Please sign up for 1-2 shifts: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090944A9A622AA8-6thgrade
Lastly, please don’t forget to submit your photos for the slideshow! We would love for the slideshow to showcase all the 6th graders, but we need your help! Please submit your photos as soon as possible as we are working on creating the slideshow next week (https://mbgrads2029.weebly.com/slideshow.html).

Hopkins Schools Transportation now has live GPS information through My Stop
We are excited to share that Hopkins Public Schools is now able to offer caregivers and students access to live school bus GPS information through My Stop. My Stop is a web-based application that families can use to track their child’s bus in real-time. This service will be especially useful during days when winter weather has slowed transportation. You can access My Stop at this link or on our transportation webpage. Parents can sign in to MyStop with their child's district username (which is their school email address before the @sign) and district password (which is their initials in capital letters and the last four digits of their school id).
Student’s Username is first4 of LN followed by first4 of FN followed by last 4 of their school id e.g.: WhitAile1234
Student's PW is their FN&LN initials followed by their 6-digit lunch PIN e.g.: AW987654 PW is case sensitive
If you need support, contact the Hopkins technology help desk at 952-988-4111. You can also download the My Stop App on Apple or Android platforms. Tech Support: For all questions regarding My Stop, please contact IT at mystop@hopkinsschools.org. Do not contact the transportation department, as they cannot answer questions regarding My Stop.
