October 2024 (Where the Arts Come Alive)
Message from the Principal
Dear Holladay Families,
Happy October! This time of year always feels vibrant and full of possibility. The cooler weather allows us to get outside and offers a reprieve from the intense heat so that we can enjoy local festivals like Tucson Meet Yourself and other traditions that make our community so unique.
Here at Holladay, we are also seeing the growth in our students as they settle into our routines and work toward individual student learning goals. With diagnostic testing behind us, we are fully focused on helping every student bloom and thrive academically and personally.
To keep the momentum going, here are 5 suggestions to help your child succeed in the second quarter:
- Set up a dedicated, phone free homework space and time: A quiet, organized spot for homework can help students focus and build strong study habits.
- Review school work regularly: Take time to go over your child’s work with them to reinforce what they’ve learned and celebrate their progress.
- Encourage daily reading: Make reading a fun daily habit, even if it’s just for 10-15 minutes. It’s one of the best ways to improve vocabulary and comprehension.
- Communicate with teachers: Stay in touch with your child’s teachers to understand their strengths and where they might need extra support.
- Ensure good rest and routines: A consistent bedtime and morning routine can help your child stay energized and ready to learn each day.
To add some fun and friendly competition to our colorful year, we’re kicking off an Quarter 2 Attendance Challenge! The class with the highest attendance for the Quarter will win a Party! Your partnership in ensuring your child is present and ready to learn each day is key to their success.
Let’s keep this year bright and full of learning! Thank you for your continued support, and I wish you all a wonderful October.
With love,
Principal Humphries-Gholson

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month
In the words of the legendary artist Frida Kahlo, "Pies, ¿para qué los quiero si tengo alas para volar?" ("Feet, what do I need you for when I have wings to fly?"). This quote reminds us that no matter the obstacles and challenges we face, our creativity, resilience, and spirit allow us to fly above them. It’s a message that resonates deeply with all of us here at Holladay, where we encourage each other to dream big, embrace our identities, and push forward with strength and perseverance.
I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all the teachers, students, and staff who worked diligently to organize our assembly and the activities surrounding this month. Your efforts bring to life the beauty of Hispanic heritage in our school, and we are deeply grateful for your dedication to making this celebration vibrant and meaningful.
