Bridges Elementary School
September 2022
Dear Bridges and Sauk Prairie Nursery School Families,
What an amazing start to the school year! Thank you to all of the families that were able to come to Back-to-School Night/Supply Drop Off and supporting their students getting to school ready to learn! You may have some yawns and tired kiddos coming home as we get into the school routines. There is a lot of work, play and learning going on here!
A few reminders...
- If you are using the pick up loop/drop off loops, please remember to stay in your vehicle to help keep the traffic moving. If you would like or need to help your student buckle or unbuckle, please use the parking lots.
- To help keep the drop off loops moving in the morning when dropping off your students, please use the loop that you will also be picking up at. All first grade and second grade students will be dropped off and picked up in the main loop by the main entrance of Bridges. All 4K students, kindergarteners and siblings of the kindergarteners will be dropped off and picked up in the south loop (this is the loop connected to the Outdoor Learning Environment/small playground). For those families that have students using the south loop, if your student needs breakfast, please feel free to use the main loop as it is closer to the cafeteria and then they don’t need to walk around the building. On days that is is raining or too cold to be outside, if you arrive prior to 7:45, you will also need to use the main loop. Supervision and adults being at all doors at 7:45.
Thank you for all your support. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please reach out. Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Jamie Breunig & Alli Steinmetz

Notes from the School Counselor . . . Anne Uphoff
Welcome back to an exciting new year! I can feel the “nerv-cited” energy from the students in Bridges hallways. Students are nervous because they are in new classrooms, meeting new friends and having new expectations. However, they are excited because we are able to be closer to each other and things are feeling a bit more like “normal” than the past two years.
Managing emotions is a big part of what students are learning as they grow. You might want to check out 6 Simple Ways to Help Kids Manage Big Emotions . . . this website has some simple and practical ideas!
As a school counselor, I am available for EVERY student at Bridges School. My areas of helping students deal with the themes of (1) Feelings (2) Friends, (3) School Success and (4) Safety. I help teach Second Step Lessons every week in every K5-2nd grade classroom - relating to the above four themes. I also offer small group or 1:1 “check-in” opportunities to students relating to the same themes. Teachers, parents or students can refer a child for these opportunities.
Please click here for a Family Introduction Letter to Second Step. This letter explains the program in more detail and gives adults a code they can enter online for FREE access to extend Second Step learning in their home. (If family members would like paper copies of some of the Second Step materials, contact me (info below) and I can see about connecting you with this information.)
My focus is helping students get the most out of their educational opportunities. If something is causing them to have difficulty learning, I want to help solve that issue. Although trained similar to a therapist, I don’t do therapy. If a student has more needs than I can address during school time, I would help a family with referral to an outside therapist. If you have any questions about anything, feel free to contact me at 608-643-1850 or anne.uphoff@saukprairieschools.org.

Math Corner
What is a ten frame you ask? Or even a five frame?
Well, here are what they look like. Ten Frames are two-by-five rectangular frames into which objects like counters can be placed to show numbers less than or equal to ten. They’re a common teaching tool here at Bridges Elementary and are used to help develop number sense within the context of 5 or 10. After students are comfortable within 5 and 10, then they start work with the double ten frame, working on teen numbers.

Home Game Stadium Expectations
Sauk Prairie High School athletes enjoy positive support from their fellow students, parents and the community. We continue to welcome elementary, intermediate and middle school students to the high school games and we want to create the best possible circumstances for their safety.
In order to maintain a safe environment at our home games, the following practices will be enforced:
Elementary, and intermediate school students need to be accompanied by an adult in order to gain entrance into the stadium. Adults bringing elementary and intermediate students must sit and supervise the students who they bring to the game. It is important that school personnel managing the event have the ability to contact an adult on site if there is a concern. Middle school aged students are allowed admission without an adult, however they must stay seated in the determined middle school section. If they come with an adult, they have the option to sit with the adult.
“Carry-ins” by all spectators will not be allowed. Items include bottled or canned beverages, soda fountain cups, footballs, frisbees, etc. Backpacks, purses, and other bags are not allowed and are subject to search.
- All students are expected to be in the stadium seats cheering for the Eagles. For everyone’s safety, no football games or similar activities that would encourage running and throwing of objects are allowed.
- Always exhibit good sportsmanship:
- Be quiet and respectful during the National Anthem and School Songs.
- Never boo or yell at officials or opposing players.
- Cheer for the Eagles!
High school athletic event prices:
- K- grade 8- $3 with paying adult or coach
- Grade 9- Adult- $5
- Under 5 -free with paying adult
PASSES ARE AVAILABLE IN THE ATHLETIC OFFICE DURING OFFICE HOURS.
