The Beautiful World of Art!
ART UPDATE: Spring Clay (Continued)
All grade levels have been working on glazing or painting spring clay projects. We are all so excited to see how the glaze will look on our projects when they return from the kiln! In addition, upper elementary students are currently working on one-point perspective drawings using a ruler and a vanishing point and most of the lower elementary students have been working with creating art using crayon rubbings of textures. Time is sure flying in the art room!
Alto Public KDL Library- Alto Elementary ART: Please continue to check out the artwork on display at the Alto Public KDL Library as new student artwork is displayed every 2-3 weeks.
Welcome to the world baby Stella Jane!!!
Math Counts!
Dear Parents:
Thank you all for participating in our month of math fun. This is my final letter to share for the month. Stop in and see our Sudoku/Colorku Interactive Bulletin Board and our Olympic Data Board. The kids are getting really good at solving the puzzles, so much so that we have to change them out twice a week. They were a big hit, to get the conversations going surrounding math. I will also share our bread tag totals with the principals when we get a final tally. At the end of week two, we had surpassed our goal of 20,000 bread tags across the district. Our count was at 23,222 on Friday.
Students participated in the weekly calendar activities, and many teachers requested that I leave
the Sudoku/Colorku Boards up for the rest of the year. That is a good sign that math can be fun. If your child enjoys solving these kinds of problems, here is the link to take the challenge everyday even in the summer https://sudoku.com/ Definitely a challenge for kids.Students have a lot to look forward to in the Month of May. Though this is the testing season, there are fieldtrips to participate in, spring sports are in full swing, field days, and summer break is on the horizon.
The year is flying by. We have rolled out a new math program this year called Reveal. This is showing promising signs of moving children forward with mathematical skills. Lowell has not had the learning loss in math that has afflicted other schools in the state from Covid. We actually continue to make gains. There is a lot going on in the elementary math world.
For those students that have been invited to participate in summer school learning camp, I hope they take the opportunity. Math will be a part of the learning experience alongside Reading. I will be there!
Have a wonderful spring and summer, and I will see you in the fall! Remember Math Counts!
