Jaguars of the Week
Early Release
Tomorrow is an Early Release Day for students in 1st-5th grade. Students will be dismissed at 1:40 pm.
Chicago Sports Team Day
Tomorrow is Student Council's Chicago Sports Team Day! Students are encouraged to show their team spirit by dressing in their favorite Chicago sports team attire. Hats are also allowed for this fun event.
We can’t wait to see all the hometown pride on display! We ask that students donate .25 cents to participate.
Halloween
With Halloween only one week away, I wanted to share some important information about our school’s Halloween procedures to ensure a fun and safe celebration for all students:
Costumes: Students should bring their costumes to school on Halloween. We ask that students do not wear their costumes to school. We will provide time for students to change into their costume during the afternoon. Please ensure costumes are school-appropriate. Masks may be worn only during the Halloween Parade. Weapons or weapon-like props are not allowed.
Parade: We will hold a Halloween parade starting at 1:30 pm (10:00 am for AM Kindergarten). Parents are invited to watch outside as students walk around the school. Further details about parade routes will be shared closer to the date.
Classroom Parties: Classrooms will celebrate with parties at 2:00 pm (10:15 am for AM Kindergarten). The PTO Head Room Parent will reach out to parents who have volunteered to help with the party. Only food that is provided by the parent volunteers is allowed. Students should not bring their own food or treats to pass out to others. All food must be approved by the school nurse.
Goodie Bags: Students are able to bring a goodie bag to share with classmates, as long as the goodie bag does not include food items. We ask that there be enough goodie bags for all students in the classroom and individually wrapped.
Dismissal: School will dismiss at the regular time.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out. We look forward to a fun and festive day!

Library Book Talks
Mrs. Kandy Jones from the Bloomingdale Public Library was at DuJardin this past week to share information with students about the Monarch, Bluestem, and Caudill Award List. Below is more information about these engaging book lists that promote literacy, foster a love of reading, and encourage students to explore a variety of genres!
Monarch Award List (Grades K-3):
This list is designed for our youngest readers and features picture books, early readers, and short chapter books. Students are encouraged to read and vote for their favorite titles, helping them develop an early enthusiasm for reading.Bluestem Award List (Grades 3-5):
The Bluestem List offers a mix of classic and contemporary chapter books for more experienced readers. These books challenge students while remaining accessible, providing opportunities to dive into new themes and ideas.Caudill Award List (Grades 4-8):
Named after author Rebecca Caudill, this list features more complex stories that encourage thoughtful discussion and reflection. These titles span multiple genres, including historical fiction, fantasy, and nonfiction, catering to diverse interests.
During the school year, students will get to vote for their favorite books after reading several titles from these list. This fosters a sense of ownership in their reading choices and introduces them to award-winning literature.
We encourage families to visit the Bloomingdale Public Library if there is a book that they would like to read and it can not be found in the DuJardin Library.
Socktober
DuJardin School is excited to participate in Socktober during the month of October. Each grade level will compete to see who can collect the most socks, with the winning grade earning a special prize! This is a great opportunity for students to make a difference in their community while engaging in some friendly competition. All sock donations will go toward helping those in need as the colder months approach. Let's make this Socktober our best one yet—start bringing in those socks!
Bloomingdale School District Referendum
We encourage you to visit the Bloomingdale School District's website to learn more about the upcoming Referendum on the November ballot. The site provides detailed information about the purpose and impact of the Referendum, including how it aims to support student learning, improve school facilities, and maintain high-quality programs across the district. You will also find answers to frequently asked questions, financial breakdowns, and key dates related to the voting process. Staying informed is essential, and the website serves as a valuable resource to help you understand how the Referendum will shape the future of our schools.
The website also includes updated Video tours: https://www.sd13.org/apps/pages/videotours
Connection Card Survey
Students across all grades at DuJardin Elementary recently participated in the Connection Card Survey. This survey plays a key role in assessing the strength of our school’s sense of community by helping us understand how connected students feel to their peers, teachers, and the overall school environment. The feedback collected will guide us in fostering meaningful relationships and ensuring every student feels valued and supported at DuJardin. We are committed to using this information to enhance our efforts in creating a welcoming, inclusive, and positive learning community for all.

Message from Mrs. Marzullo
Dear Parents,
Child abuse curriculum lessons, otherwise known as the state mandated Erin’s Law, will once again be conducted in all K-5 classrooms to educate students on safe and unsafe touches, safe and unsafe secrets, and how to get away and tell a trusted adult. Lessons will teach children how to recognize child abuse, equip them with skills to reduce their vulnerability, and encourage them to report abuse. Starting this school year, District 13 has adopted a new Erin’s Law curriculum entitled Think First & Stay Safe by Child Lures Prevention that focuses on teaching the above mentioned skills. The classroom lessons will be conducted as follows:
Kindergarten- November/December
1st Grade: March
2nd Grade- April
3rd Grade: May
4th Grade: February
5th Grade: January
As a parent, I would encourage you to discuss these subjects with your child. You may preview the Think First & Stay Safe curriculum, by age level, by going to Think First & Stay Safe by Child Lures Prevention. If you have any questions about this or any other related topic, please do not hesitate to call me at 630-894-9200.
If you would rather NOT have your child participate in this instruction, please communicate this with Mrs. Sarah Marzullo: sarahmarzullo@sd13.org. When opting out of the lessons, be sure to include your child(ren)'s first/last name and homeroom teacher.

Message from Nurse Rosero
Required Health Forms:
- Kindergarten: Physical, Dental, & Vision
- 2nd Grade: Dental
- Health Office Website
Student Needs:
Please inform the nurse of any allergies or sensitivities to foods, medications, and environmental allergens. If there are any pertinent details of your students' health that you feel the nurse needs to know, please reach out and discuss this with the school nurse. This information can be helpful to better support your student throughout the day, if certain situations arise.
About Your Student’s Medication:
The district's medication administration policy mandates that all medication to be administered at school requires an MD order, this includes over-the-counter medications. Students may NOT keep over-the-counter meds in their backpacks or in their lockers--including cough drops, Advil, etc. This is an important safety concern! Please review the policy included in the registration process.
If your student requires an inhaler, Epi-Pen, or any oral medication, please obtain the medication form and appropriate health care plan from your physician when your child has their exam. Forms may also be obtained on the district website.
Excused Physical Education Class:
Please note that all PE excuses need to be sent to the Nurse's Office. A parent may excuse a student from PE for up to 3 days. (consecutively) Thereafter, a Doctor's note is required.

AR Reading Program
I’m excited to share that our Accelerated Reader program is up and running! Click here for more information about the Accelerated Reader program at DuJardin.
This program is designed to motivate students to read more, develop strong reading habits, and improve their reading comprehension skills.
Through the AR program, students will:
- Choose books at their appropriate reading levels.
- Take quizzes after finishing their books to assess understanding.
- Earn points and track their progress toward personalized reading goals.
Our goal is to foster a love of reading in each student while also helping them grow as confident, independent readers. We encourage you to support your child’s reading at home by setting aside dedicated reading time and discussing their AR goals.
If you have any questions about the program, feel free to reach out to Mrs. Shermak hshermak@sd13.org or Ms. Burton aburton@sd13.org.
