Parade participants drop-off will be at Littles Parking lot across from Main Street Baptist Church. You will not be able to park there. It Is for drop off only. The parade will start at Little's Parking Lot.
Parking for SHS parade – We suggest you park at the Commuter Parking lot, the old Bank of South Side or Bank of America parking lots.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Several of the HOSA members handed out awareness ribbons to students and staff. Pictured below is Mrs. True (our favorite SHS Packer Clinic Assistant) who is a breast cancer survivor.
Fall Engineering II Mousetrap Car Derby
Congratulations to our Fall Engineering II Mousetrap Car Derby Winners! Alex Gay and Kamell Tayler were our First Place Winners with a record-setting 86 foot run. Sophie Shipman, Sophie Prince and Natalie Simon were our second place winners.
SHS Baseball Team Receives Award
The American Baseball Coaches Association presented the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award to the Smithfield High School baseball team in recognition of the program's 3.7 GPA during the 2023-24 school year.

Family Life Education
Smithfield High School will be teaching a unit on Family Life Education to all students currently enrolled in Health/PE 9 and/or Driver Ed./PE 10 on November 4th and November 5th. If you would like to review any of the materials for this unit, please contact Principal Cuffee to schedule an appointment. If you do not want your child to participate in these lessons, please print and complete the opt-out form and return to the school. Links for materials regarding this unit are as follows:

Senior Portrait Selection and Senior Yearbook Quotes
Reminder to All Seniors:
Don't forget to select your senior portrait for the yearbook by the November 4 deadline! Go to prestigeportraits.com and use the access code emailed to you or your parent to view your proofs, order photos and select a portrait for the yearbook. See Mrs. Garrow in the library for more information.
Also, don't forget to submit your senior quotes for the yearbook!
Seniors: Share a little bit about your personality by including a quote under your senior portrait in the yearbook! The deadline to submit your quote is December 1. Submit via this Google Form: https://forms.gle/htKcTW6Pii8K96i89
All quotes must be school appropriate and should be no more than 150 characters. Please use quotation marks and include the author of your quote in your submission. Yearbook staff and SHS administration reserve the right to reject your quote if it doesn't meet guidelines.
Examples of what is NOT acceptable:
- References to alcohol, tobacco, drugs, gangs
- Foul language
- Quotes that are sexual or contain vulgar innuendo
- Nonsense or inside jokes
- Anything that belittles another person's ethnicity, religious/political beliefs, sexuality, gender, physical/mental ability
Senior Superlatives
Attention, seniors! Now is the time to nominate your friends and classmates in a variety of Senior Superlative categories. Winners will be featured in the yearbook and on The Packer Report. Nominations will be accepted through October 15.

SHS Choraliers
Presenting the SHS Choraliers Christmas concerts, now at Christ Episcopal Church in Smithfield, the same series previously held at St. Luke’s Church! Please join us to start your holiday season off with Christmas favorites from ancient times to the present. The select Choraliers ensemble will delight both young and old with their community concerts on Friday, December 6 at 7pm and Saturday, December 7 at 4pm and 7pm.
Concert Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased on EventBrite at this link or at the door before the concert. Be sure to select which concert you are attending when purchasing tickets. We hope to see you there!
757: Life and Career Summit

Hosted by the Hampton Roads Workforce Council, in partnership with the 757 Regional Internship Collaborative, and Old Dominion University, this summit is your chance to connect with young local professionals and explore the dynamic career opportunities Hampton Roads has to offer.

FREE NASA-related programs for Virginia's high school students
The Virginia Space Grant Consortium provides FREE NASA-related programs for Virginia's high school students in 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. The programs have an interactive online STEM learning experience and are highlighted by a seven-day residential summer academy at NASA.
10th GRADE
Virginia Space Coast Scholars (VSCS) focuses on the current missions flown or managed by NASA Wallops Flight Facility on Virginia’s Eastern Shore. http://vsgc.odu.edu/spacecoast/ - This online course application is OPEN UNTIL OCTOBER 24.
11th AND 12th GRADE
Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars (VASTS) focuses on NASA’s human spaceflight missions and the Journey to the Moon and on to Mars. Students learn from NASA experts on how to design space missions! http://vsgc.odu.edu/VASTS/, applications are OPEN UNTIL OCTOBER 24.
Virginia Earth System Science Scholars (VESSS) focuses on the challenges of the next generation of scientists and engineers to become part of the solution to the societal issues faced by the impacts of climate change. HOSA (Nurse Aide and Patient Care students)
If you have a student that is interested in a career in the healthcare field, please make sure they are signing up for the Nurse Aide class starting their Junior year. Students earn their American Heart Association CPR Provider card, OSHA Healthcare certification, and become eligible to take their Nurse Aide Certification Exam. Once completing Nurse Aide 1 & 2, your student can then take the Patient Care Tech course where they will earn their phlebotomy and ekg certification.
