I LOVE LEXIA Student Challenge Jan 12-Feb 14
Parents, please share with your students that we are kicking off a month long "I LOVE LEXIA" student challenge to help promote and encourage student's use of Lexia to support their reading literacy. This challenge will run from Jan 12-Feb 14 for all students in grades K-5. At the end of the challenge the student with the most units gained in Lexia in each grade will receive their own special lunch delivered to them during their lunchtime from Mr. Hart from a choice of restaurants on Hull St and the runner up student will receive some cool Spring Run Husky Swag. Students may access Lexia at school and at home on their chromebook or any internet enabled device by logging into their rapid identity account and going to their student backpack. Attendance Matters
School attendance is vital to academic achievement. Every day counts! Good attendance boosts academic success and prepares students for future employment. Absences add up, and excessive absences may affect receiving credit for classes or promotion to the next grade.
Students are expected to attend school daily on time. Send your children to school every day unless they are sick. This creates good habits and shows that school is important to your family.
Avoid arriving late and leaving early.
Create morning and night routines for school days and stick to them.
Set out clothes and backpack at night.
Have a regular bedtime and wake-up time.
Please notify the school if your student will need to be absent from school. If you are having difficulty sending your child to school for any reason, please contact your school’s social worker or counselor. For more information, please see School Board policy 4020.
You can check your child’s attendance in the Synergy ParentVue portal. Login to ParentVue, click on your child, and then click on Attendance. A calendar will show excused and unexcused absences. You can toggle on details for more information on absences. Click here for a visual of how to check attendance in Synergy.
CCPS Updated Cell Phone/Smart Watch School Board Policy
Dear Families,
The School Board approved the new cell phone guidance in policy 4010-R, on December 11, 2024. The new policy will be in effect starting January 1, 2025. For elementary schools, the policy has not changed from its previous iteration. Students are allowed to possess a cell phone or other personal electronic communication device while on school property, this includes the bus, during the instructional day. However, the phone or other personal electronic communication device (such as smart watches or trackers) must be turned off and stored in their backpack.
Our school's procedures around this policy will not change. If cell phones are brought to school, they must be turned off and stored in backpacks.
Collecting Snacks for Teachers/Staff
Our school purchased new "snackleboxes" for our staff. We filled them up with little snacks to help fuel our staff with items such as M&M's, nuts, gummy worms, raisins, pretzels, goldfish, animal crackers, skittles, jelly beans (any small type of snack)
If any parents would like to donate any bags of these items to help us replenish these snackleboxes throughout the year please drop off your donations in the main office. Thank You!
Collecting Books for Birthdays/Lexia Rewards
We have been celebrating student birthdays at SRES by having students receive a birthday book and pencil when it is their birhtday. We also have been celebrating students by getting a new book in our book vending machine when they level up in Lexia. Both supplies of these books are running low. If you would like to donate any used children's books in good condition for our birthday book program or books in new/great condition for our Lexia rewards program please drop them off at school or contact Mr Hart here christopher_hart@ccpsnet.net

Nominate a SRES Staff Member as a CCPS Game Changer
Have you heard about this easy and important way to honor outstanding teachers and staff members of Chesterfield County Public Schools? You can nominate them for the Superintendent’s Game Changer Award! Everyone is encouraged to use this simple online form to recognize employees who go above and beyond to connect with students, build relationships, provide engaging learning opportunities and help families.
Nominations are accepted throughout the school year. Then each month, 21 remarkable employees will be chosen and will receive their awards when the superintendent and a School Board representative stop by to surprise them.
But before any teacher or school employee can receive the Superintendent’s Game Changer Award, they first have to be nominated by a parent, student, colleague or community member.
So how about it? How many game changers do you know? Please nominate them by answering the five easy questions on the nomination form. By spending five minutes of your day to fill out the form, you can spark great joy throughout Chesterfield County Public Schools.
Free Tutoring for Students in Grades 3-12
Free online tutoring is available for students in grades 3-12 via Stride Tutoring.
Students can reserve time for online video meetings with tutors licensed in subject areas in which they need additional support. Students do not need a teacher referral or recommendation and there are no fees for families.
To access Stride Tutoring, students along with their families should go to the backpack icon on the RapidIdentity dashboard using their CCPS-issued Chromebook. Click the Stride Tutoring icon under the “District Applications” heading. No additional login credentials are required.
Stride tutors are certified teachers who develop instruction to help students succeed. Tutoring sessions may be scheduled for any subject/topic/concept where additional instruction is needed. Students may share materials from class and representations of their work to help the tutor best align the session with the work being done in the classroom.
At this time, there is no limit to the number of tutoring sessions a student may use. Additional information, including FAQ and a quick-start guide for logging on to the Stride platform, is available at oneccps.org/tutors.
To provide this service, Chesterfield County Public Schools is using funds available through the Virginia Department of Education’s ALL In initiative as well as other funding sources. Free tutoring will be open to students as long as funds are available.

Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe
These school wide expectations are modeled and taught by your child's teacher in class, by our counselors when they teach lessons in classrooms, by our administrative team when they visit classrooms and via our AM Husky News Program broadcast in every classroom.
New Student Attendance Google Form
We have developed a new online student absence reporting form. If/when your child will be absent from school you can complete this simple online form instead of calling and reporting your child's absence to the office. When a parent completes this form it sends a notification to the main office so the attendance secretary can record your child's absence in our Synergy student database. We hope you will find this new tool useful and helpful in reporting your child's absences.
