Liberty Lake Elementary - 8.26.24
Hello Liberty Lake Families!!!
As we begin a new school year, the CVSD Eastside elementary community is working on reducing distractions in classrooms and in our schools in order to increase students’ engagement in learning. We want to share an update to our practices on cell phones and smart watches in our buildings. Our primary goal is to create an environment where students can fully engage in their learning and social interactions without unnecessary distractions. Cell phones and smart watches are not going away, they are a part of our world as many of us and our students have them. Research has overwhelmingly shown that electronic devices, while valuable tools in some settings, can significantly disrupt focus and academic performance when used during school hours. Knowing this, here is how we plan to help our students stay focused on learning and minimize distractions.
We have implemented the following guidelines:
· Device Storage: Please ensure that your child keeps their cell phone in their backpack, either turned off or on school mode, during school hours. This ensures that the devices do not interfere with classroom activities and learning time. Smart watches are not recommended as they are often in the student’s visual field and prove to be an serious distraction. If a student does have a smart watch, it will need to be in “school mode” during school hours. If a smart watch is not in school mode, it will be required to be put in their backpack.
· Clear Expectations: At the beginning of the year, we will clearly communicate these policies to all students, ensuring everyone is on the same page and understands the expectations.
· First Time Out: If a student is found using their device during school hours, they will receive a gentle reminder of the policy.
· Second Time Out: Should it happen again, the teacher will hold onto the device until the end of the school day, as well as contact the parent or guardian.
· Third Time Out: If a student repeatedly uses their device during school hours, it will be sent to the office, and a parent or guardian will need to come and pick it up.
· Technology on the Bus: Technology can be used to listen to music, as long as the volume is at a reasonable level.
· Before and After School: Students may use their phone & watches before entering the building and after exiting the building at the end of the day to connect with families. Once inside, they are off and stored in backpacks.
We believe that by limiting access to these devices during the school day, we can foster better concentration, engagement in learning activities, social interaction, and overall academic success. Your support in reinforcing these guidelines at home is crucial to making this policy effective.
Thank you for helping us create a distraction-free learning environment where all students can thrive.
Thank you,
LLE Administration and Staff
We’re so excited to kick off the new school year on Thursday, September 5th! It’s going to be a fantastic first day, and the information below will help ensure everything runs smoothly as we welcome our students back.
Please remember to arrive a few minutes early to allow time for parking and getting settled. Teachers will be ready to greet students on the playground at the first bell. Don’t forget to pack a healthy snack and lunch. If you have any questions or need assistance, our staff will be available to help.
We’re looking forward to seeing all the bright faces of our students as they return for another year of learning and growth. Let’s make it a great start to the year!
First Day Reminders
Parents are welcome to walk their child onto the playground on the first day of school. Your child can find their classroom cone with their teacher’s name on it, drop off their backpack, and enjoy some playtime until the bell rings. When the bell rings, please say your goodbyes as we’re eager to start our school day. After school, if you’re walking to pick up your child, please designate a spot to meet outside.
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
We have students who arrive and depart different ways each day. The first week of school our dedicated staff work to solidify these routines and expectations. Please help in supporting us by adhering to the following expectations for the safety of all of our studnets.
Valet -
AM - 8:45 AM - Students can begin to exit vehicles at 8:45am Remain in your vehicles at all times. Do not stop by the playground gate to let your child out of the vehicle. Please use both lanes in our valet line.If you are in the first lane (closest to the sidewalk) your child can exit on their own when they have reached one of the front 3 cones.
If you are in the second lane please wait for our school assistant to escort your child from the vehicle.
- Golf carts are treated like cars
PM - 3:15 PM
- Students will exit the front doors and line up behind their grade level cones.
Please remind your child to watch for their vehicle
Our school assistant will cross students in front of the first lane for students to get to their vehicle in lane 2.
Students should not be exiting the playground gates to enter cars in valet.
Baseball Parking Lot-
The parking lot between Liberty Creek and Liberty Lake is an area that many parents use to pick up their child(ren). This area is not a valet and not supervised by our staff as it is the City of Liberty Lake's property. We ask that if you will be using the baseball parking lot, for the safety of our students, parents should exit their vehicle and meet their student at a designated area. Students should not be walking across the parking lot to enter their vehicle. Please do not drop off students or allow your child to exit the vehicle until 8:45am.
Bus-
All students riding a bus will walk over to school on the sidewalk when they arrive and enter through the playground gates. At the end of the day students will walk over with their teachers to the bus loop.
Walkers-
All walkers should exit the door that puts them on the fastest route to the nearest crossing guard. Teachers will go over where walkers should cross at the start of school.
School Safety
For the safety of our students, please remember that our exterior doors are locked at all times. With over 500 students on our large campus, it’s important that we all follow these procedures. Once students enter through the playground gate, our school assistants will close and lock the gates. To enter the school, please use the front entrance where our office staff will grant you access. We kindly ask that you do not wave to request entry. Additionally, if someone is entering behind you, please ensure they also state their name to our front office staff before coming in. Thank you for helping us keep our campus safe!
