March 29, 2024
Dear Scenic Families,
Greetings to all! I hope you and your amazing kiddos were able to have a great spring break full of rest and relaxation!! We were able to go back home to Nebraska for the week! This is an awesome time to be on the ranch! My parents run a cow-calf operation and right now they are having between 10-30 calves each day! It is my favorite time of year to be on the farm, I love seeing the baby calves and watching the farm come to life!!
I was excited to come back this week and see all of our students! I have missed them and it was fun to hear about all of the things they got to do over spring break! Now we find ourselves in the 4th Quarter, we are on the home stretch of the 2023-2024 school year....isn't that just crazy!!? Last month I shared a Ted Talk video about GRIT! I will be using morning announcements and time in classrooms to talk about the importance of finishing strong. Sometimes the 4th quarter can be a bit of a grind! The weather is getting warmer and it becomes more difficult to be engaged in learning at times. Our Scenic Staff will continue to do an amazing job of engaging our students & teaching and we will continue to encourage all students to do their very best!!
We put up a new bulletin board for 4th Quarter and it is all about GRIT!!
(Ask your kiddos what GRIT stands for, we have been talking about it this week!)
- G=Give it your all
- R=Redo if necessary
- I=Ignore giving up
- T=Take time to do it right
As we talk more and more about grit, perseverance, determination and finishing our year strong, it is my hope that all of our students will understand the power they have over their learning, their school day and their life! We want to empower each and every student to believe in themselves, know that we believe in them, have patience and grace with themselves and others, stay determined & not give up, be proud of the work & learning that they do and be the very best version of themselves!!
It is the time of year when everyone begins thinking and planning for the following school year-including parents. Creating class rosters for the following school year is an important and complicated process. Our ultimate goal is to create a balanced and harmonious class so that each student has the opportunity to learn not only from an amazing teacher but also from a diverse group of classmates. Our staff will begin the formal process of developing class lists for the 2024-2025 school year at the end of April and that will continue until the end of this school year. Parents are an important part of this process and I want to invite you to share your input with me. Below is a link to a google form that you are invited to complete if you have any specific input; if you do not have anything specific that you would like for me to know you do not need to worry about completing the form. Thank you for trusting us in this process!!
Parent Input for Class Placement 2024-2025
And finally, we are asking all family and community members to complete this SURVEY. The information gathered from this survey will help District 51 understand what draws families to or away from District 51 and what the Grand Valley community would like to see supported or added in terms of unique D51 program options (STEM, Dual Language, etc...) Please click on the SURVEY link above and thank you for your time completing this important survey!
Scenic Annual Goals & Quarterly Update
Kindergarten Registration for 2024-2025
We are so excited to "round-up" our new Kindergarten Class for the 2024-2025 school year! In an effort to get students and their families to come to Scenic and see what an amazing school we have, we are having a Kindergarten Open House! We would really love for all our current Scenic families to help us spread the word! We have been sharing our open house information on our Facebook page and would love for you to share it with your friends and families, just look up Scenic Elementary and share the post!! I also put the included the flier that we are sharing out! If you click on the flier it will take you to a full version of that flier! Thanks in advance for helping us to get the word out about our Kindergarten Open House scheduled from 4:30-5:30 on Wednesday, April 17, 2024!!
Rock the CMAS!!
April is a busy and important month for all students at Scenic! On top of finishing our school year strong, showing grit and perseverance and not giving up, our 3rd, 4th & 5th grade students will be taking the CMAS (Colorado Measures of Academic Success)! This assessment is our state test that measures our students in the areas of Math, Language Arts, Science & Social Studies! We are so excited that our students get the opportunity to show everyone what awesome learners they are and the amazing progress they have made this year. Our CMAS schedule is below!!
Our theme for the CMAS is to Rock the Test!!
To Rock the Test this is what we need from parents & families:
Make sure students get a good night's rest!

Scenic in Bloom!!
This spring students in our 5th grade classes will be taking on a new project called Scenic in Bloom! This will be a landscaping/grounds project for the front of our building and the students will use their recess and any free time they have to help design, plant, etc..! All of our slushie sales in April will be used to purchase plants, shrubs and mulch for the front of our building. If you would like to donate to our Scenic in Bloom project you can drop any donations at the office OR send it with your student in an envelope marked "Scenic in Bloom".
At dismissal (4:00-4:15 & on Fridays 2:00-2:15), I have been noticing we have a lot of our sweet four-legged pets greeting our students! 🐶 I just want to make sure that we have our pets on a leash if they are out on school grounds. It is a safety issue when we are dismissing 230 students to have dogs that are not on a leash. Thanks for understanding!!😊
Lego League Information
Good luck to our Lego League Explorers on April 6th when they will be at Orchard Mesa Middle School for their Lego Expo!! Both of Scenic's Teams will be competing in the Red Wave from 11:30-1:30!
