IHMS Week Recap
Spirit Week: Sept 9-13
Lancer Day is Friday, September 13th! We are celebrating with a spirit week!
Athletics Update
Indian Hills student-athletes and coaches have worked hard since practice began on August 19th. All three sports begin their season next week. It’s an exciting time of year for our coaches and student-athletes. We can’t wait to see their talents and preparation in action!
Indian Hills will lead the way by competing at a high level and displaying great sportsmanship on the court, field, and course.
Good sportsmanship is learned, practiced and executed. Respect for the opponent, spectators, coaches and officials is a must at all levels of athletics and activity programs. At interscholastic contests, generosity and genuine concern for others should characterize behavior on the part of everyone. Display good sportsmanship the next time you attend an Indian Hills event. Thank you from your Kansas State High School Activities Association and Indian Hills Middle School.
Parent Volunteers Needed!
7th grade science classes are working with Friends of the Kaw 9/11-9/20, and need parent volunteers who are MVP certified to help facilitate stream testing labs! No science background or experience necessary, just an openness to learn, and excitement with helping students collect data that will help local organizations and governments make decisions about water management.
Volunteer shifts are either am or pm, and you will be outside, so please dress accordingly!
Click here to sign up, and email shelbyhudson@smsd.org with any questions you have.
Junior Board First Meeting

Suicide Prevention Week
This week is Suicide Prevention Week at IHMS and across the district. We are providing our students with a suicide prevention lesson during Knight Time on Wednesday, September 11th. This is through the MindWise Signs of Suicide Program. There will be other engagement opportunities throughout the week and we’re asking that students wear turquoise or purple on Friday for awareness and support!

Plan Ahead Before You Get to School!
Some research suggests cell phone use has a negative relationship with the development of executive functioning skills. These skills include organization and planning.
Coordination between adults and students the night before or morning of school can eliminate the reliance on cell phones to ask simple planning questions. These questions can take away from instructional time and ultimately student learning. Answer these questions before classes begin each day:
- How are you getting home? Plan for dismissal.
- What time is your event after school?
- Do you need clothes, supplies, food, etc.?
- Can a friend come over?
On the other hand, cell phones can be a great planning tool. Use a calendar, set reminders, coordinate with others before your question/need becomes urgent. Plan ahead!
We know life happens! If students have a need to contact home, come to the office. We have all contact information on file.
Families please contact the office if something changes from the original plan or your student needs information.
It’s not easy, but it’s worth it!
Vaccinations Records Are Due!
From the Nurse Office:
If you are unsure if your student’s records are up to date or not, please check Skyward. Tdap and Meningococcal are both required at entry to 7th grade.
If you have questions, please visit the 2024-2025 vaccination requirement page here.
Wednesday, Oct 16, 2024 is the immunization exclusion date and will result in your student being sent home.
