Mock Caldecott 2019
It’s time to discuss and vote for a Rhode Island Mock Caldecott winner and honor books! We’ll read and discuss a sampling of the best picture books of 2018 before voting using the balloting procedures of the real Caldecott committee.
This year's discussion will happen via a webinar on Wednesday, January 16, 12:30pm-1:45pm. The webinar will be recorded and archived for later viewing by those who are unable to participate in the live web discussion. Voting will take place online through two balloting sessions, using SurveyMonkey to collect votes. All are welcome to vote, even if you’re unable to participate in the webinar discussion.

Spotlight On: Lunchtime Skills Series
The Lunchtime Skills Series will run bi-monthly and focus on practical technology skills and web resources that can easily be covered in webinar format.
Upcoming skill: Using Canva
This 50 minute webinar will focus on the basics of using Canva, a free tool that allows you to create beautiful graphics with minimal design experience. Emily Goodman and Rebecca Ott from the Tiverton Public Library will take you through their tips and tricks for using Canva to create promotional materials for your library and walk you through creating a poster yourself. Eat lunch as you follow along, or revisit the webinar recording in your own time!

Children's Sensory Story Time Support Group
Join fellow youth services librarians to share best practices for sensory story times and inclusive library programs and services. We will be discussing community connections, sensory activity ideas, and programs/services beyond story time.
Please bring any of the following to the discussion:

All materials and ideas generated from this meeting will be collected on the Children's Sensory Story Time Support Group LibGuide.
The Sensory Story Time Support Group is a grassroots community of practice developed and faciliated by Maria Cotto at the Pawtucket Public Library and Babs Wells at the Greenville Public Library. The Sensory Storytime Support Group seeks to empower youth services librarians to better serve children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families by expanding programming, outreach, partnerships, and resources that welcome all abilities. Assistive Technology to Support Low Vision and Blind Patrons
Assistive (also called adaptive) technologies are digital solutions that enable people with disabilities to live independently. Blind persons can hear computer-screen text, and people with visual impairments can enlarge text, enabling independent reading. People who are unable to manipulate a mouse can enter data, and those who cannot physically hear a computer prompt can view prompts.
A Visual Presentation and Discussion on:
1. Rhode Island Vision Support Resources & Digital Literacy Resources (PPT)
2. Tablets, Mounts and Accessories to promote a physically accessible space for clients.
3. Demonstration of Assistive Technology Devices: Hands on with Hand Held Portable

The Performers’ Showcase is your chance to meet area educators/performers interested in being a part of the annual statewide children’s and teen Summer Reading Program.
