Message From the Principal
Dear Mountain Vista Families,
As we close out the month of April, I want to take a moment to celebrate both the incredible efforts of our students and the lasting impact of those who have dedicated years to our school community.
Our students have shown tremendous perseverance during CMAS testing—demonstrating focus and dedication that we are incredibly proud of. As we transition to our end-of-year STAR testing, we look forward to seeing the growth each student has made over the year in both reading and math.
At the same time, we are preparing to say goodbye to two beloved members of our Mountain Vista family who have dedicated so much to our community. Mrs. Ellen Burns, our amazing office manager, and Mr. Yardeny, our fun-loving PE teacher, are both retiring this spring after many years of service. They have touched the lives of countless students, families, and staff, and we are so grateful for all they have given to Mountain Vista! Please join us at the upcoming events where you can take a moment to say your goodbyes and express your thanks and appreciation to them.
Upcoming Events
Kindergarten Exploration – May 6 | 5:00–6:00 PM
We’re excited to welcome future kindergarten families for an open house-style evening to learn more about kindergarten at Mountain Vista. Come explore classrooms, meet staff, and get your questions answered as we prepare for the 2025–26 school year.
PreK Orientation – May 6 | 6:15 PM
Following Kindergarten Exploration, we’ll be hosting our PreK Orientation. Families will begin with a short presentation in the gym, followed by a guided tour of our PreK classrooms. If you or someone you know is interested in PreK for the upcoming year, now is the time to enroll! Flyers with more information are attached to this newsletter—please help us spread the word!
PreK Field Day & Celebration – May 13
Our littlest learners will enjoy their own special field day and celebration. More information will be shared by your PreK teachers.
5th Grade Celebration – The morning of May 22
We’ll be sending out more details soon, but mark your calendars for a special celebration to recognize our 5th graders and their time at Mountain Vista. Classroom teachers will be in touch with event-specific information.
Thank you, as always, for your partnership, support, and enthusiasm as we finish the year strong. We’re so grateful to be on this journey with you and your amazing children.
Warmly,
Megan Carkhuff
Principal

Arrival/Dismissal/Attendance Reminders
Please remember that we have a soft start beginning at 7:45 a.m., and school starts promptly at 8:00 a.m. Do not drop your students off any earlier than 7:45 a.m. as there is no supervision outside the entry doors before then. Keep in mind that frequent tardiness and early dismissals lead to missed instruction and can affect your student’s ability to successfully meet grade level standards and take part in the school community. If you are calling to excuse an absence for your child, we advise you to use the 24-hour attendance line (720-886-2795) and not the main office line. If you need to pick up your child prior to dismissal, you must do so no later than 2:25 p.m. (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday) and 1:25 p.m. on Wednesdays. Thank you for your partnership and cooperation in supporting our students.
Reporting an Absence
If your child will be absent for any reason, please remember to call our 24-hour attendance line,
720-886-2795. Please include following information with your message:
· Student’s first and last name (please spell)
· Teacher name and grade
· Reason for the absence.
· Your name
· Contact phone number
· Brief description of symptoms
Thank you for your partnership as we work to keep our students and staff healthy
Illness Reminders for Parents
All students must be fever-free (fever = 100.4* or higher) without fever-reducing medication for 24 hours and feeling well enough to participate in school.
They also must stay home until it has been 24 hours since their last episode of vomiting and/or diarrhea and eating and drinking before returning to school.
If you have questions, please feel free to contact our school nurse:
Mandy Jackson BSN, RN 720-886-2704

News from the Library
The end of the school year means all the library books need to be returned by May 2nd. Please check with your student and look around the house for any books that belong to MVE. If there are any lost or missing books checked out to your student I will be in touch to clear the account.
