Valley Creek Families,

We have had a great, quick week after the nice Fall Break!

Just as a reminder that there are blackout days after breaks. We do not have visitor or volunteers on campus so that we can get back into routine with our campus procedures. These days are marked on our community calendar and in our upcoming events.

Next week is our Culture and Diversity Week! Our volunteers, students, teachers, and PTA have been working to decorate and transform the school for this exciting event. We will have a student assembly Tuesday morning and also our family event Thursday evening. We look forward to seeing all our families there to learn, share, and celebrate.

Also, don't forget to join us for our Spirit Day, Tuesday 10/22, at Stix from 11am-9pm, to support our PTA. Let them know you are with our school!

Today our campus had a Secure Lockout of our building. This means that an incident is happening outside of our building, the neighborhood or nearby community, and we need everyone, teachers/students/volunteers/visitors, to stay inside or come inside.

An announcement is made over the intercom. Our Administrators and ASO work together to make sure everyone is secure inside.

After this the inside of the building is business as usual. Everyone is allowed to move freely around inside the building and go about their schedule inside. No one, for any reason, is allowed into or out of the building during this time.

Once we are notified by authorities or security that there is no longer a concern, we notify our campus that they are allowed to resume normal activities outside the building, recess or PE, per their schedule.

This is different from a Lockdown which is an incident happening on our grounds or in our building.

We accurately defined what was happening in our communication to our families today, in real time, but wanted to also make sure to take the time to define the distinction between these two very different emergency procedures.

Thank you for your compliance and understanding as we follow these district security protocols:

• A valid state or government issued photo ID must be presented each time you visit, volunteer, or pick up a student.
• Please be prepared to present your physical ID upon arrival.
• We are not be able to accept photos of ID's on phones.
• We will not be able to admit anyone to volunteer, visit, or pick up a student that does not present their physical ID.

• A background check is required each school year for people wanting to volunteer in McKinney ISD.
• This includes making copies, PTA events, lunch duty coverage, classroom parties, field trips, and other volunteering that takes place inside and outside our building.
• We encourage all parents and guardians to complete your volunteer application as soon as possible to avoid any delay in the processing.
• Anyone that has not completed a volunteer application and had it approved will not be able to volunteer in any capacity inside or outside of our building.
