Title 1 Annual Meeting
Our Back to School Spirit Week is our annual tradition of showing our positive spirit for a new upcoming school year. We had fun as students, and staff, participating in themes, and brought so many smiles, and vibes! Thank you for allowing your students to shine last week, and let's keep our partnership going for the rest of their academic year:-)
Thank you to parents and community who came to our Annual TItle 1 Meeting/ Family Movie Night. We shared our ideations, goals, and ways to make our school- wide efforts the best to meet your kidoos scholastic needs. It was awesome to see so many participate, and have families come together for the showing of 'Despicable 4.' We appreciate our Student Store for donating nacho and cheese samples, and Mr. Robert for the popcorn and juice donation to make our night a complete success. Please check out our Family Resource Center for free books, and check out some learning games, and academic packs to practice skill building at home!
You may remember your student taking the AK STAR summative assessment last spring.
The Alaska System of Academic Readiness (AK STAR) is Alaska’s state assessment for English language arts (ELA) and mathematics. In spring of 2024, AK STAR was administered to students in grades three to nine. AK STAR provides an opportunity for students to show what they know and can do related to Alaska’s ELA and mathematics standards, which were adopted in June 2012. For the second year, AK STAR also included a growth component, similar to the MAP Growth interim assessments many districts administer in fall and winter. This growth component provided a RIT score and growth percentiles. This approach allows a student to take just one test but receive both a RIT score and a summative score.
AK STAR results are a necessary component of making data-informed decisions for students, families, teachers, administrators, district leadership, and policy makers:
For our students and families, assessment results can help determine strengths and challenges, and how to utilize both to continue academic growth.
For our teachers and school administrators, assessment results can help evaluate progress, find areas for improvement, and focus on what students need most.
For our policymakers and district leadership, assessment results can ensure resources are allocated to the most vital areas of need.
The student results from these tests are now available and will be coming home soon. Teachers at your school can help you understand the report if you have questions. In addition, the Department of Education & Early Development (DEED) has published a Family Guide for your use. The Guide can be found on DEED’s assessment webpage (education.alaska.gov/assessments).
In our ongoing commitment to prioritize the health and well-being of our students and staff, we want to inform you about our KPBSD Symptom-Free Protocol. This protocol is designed to create a safer environment for everyone by minimizing the risk of the spread of illnesses. We kindly request that you ensure your child is symptom-free before sending them to school each day. This includes checking for common symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, and difficulty breathing. If your child exhibits any of these symptoms or has been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for an infectious illness, we strongly encourage you to keep them at home, and consult with the clinic. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter, as the collective efforts of our school community are crucial in maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment for all.
Remindar to parents and guardians to please update your child(ren)'s information and permissions or new/ returning students for the 2024-2025 school year! Please follow this link to update:-)
