What's Coming Up?
Physical Education
All is well in PE! This next week we’ll be starting a GAGA ball unit combined with the weightroom. We will be continuing our time with alternating days in the weightroom through the 3rd quarter. Sports conditioning classes have resumed their daily workouts. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have for your student!
*We will look to go outside as much as possible for PE (weather permitting). Please help us in reminding our students to bring water bottles and tennis shoes every day they have PE.

Avid 9:
We had our first official Tutorial of the semester! Students either brought in a point of confusion or point of confidence. We had our second binder check on Wednesday. 9th Grade AVID is continuing to show how organized they are!
Math:
Just a reminder that students can check Google classroom for the Weekly Learning Plan, Vocabulary, Lesson Recordings, and Completed Notes.
Please continue to check Skyward regularly to check that students are completing daily assignments.
Algebra: students are working in Module 7 “Systems of Equations”. There will be a quiz on Lessons 7-1 to 7-4 at the end of this coming week.
Pre-Algebra: students took the Module 7 Test on Monday and started Module 1 “Proportional Relationships”. There will be a quiz on Lessons 1-3 to 1-5 at the end of this coming week.
Geometry: students took the Module 6 Test on Monday and started Module 7 “Quadrilaterals”. We will continue working in Module 7 this coming week.

World History:
Students completed Unit 6 this week and will be moving forward starting with the beginning of World War 1 on Monday. Have a great weekend!

Art:
6th grade artists learned about the artwork of ceramicist James DeRosso as they prepare to build clay creatures. 7th and 8th grade artists are finishing their “All about Me” drawings and will begin a collage unit on Monday. 9th grade artists learned about Jun Kaneko’s ceramic “dangoes,” and they will begin constructing their own versions next week.
Culinary Essentials:
Students began learning the Rules of Mise en Place, “to put in place” this week. To put this new skill into practice the class has been working together to produce a Classgiving Meal! Put their Culinary skills to work next week in the kitchen over the break.

Foods and Nutrition: Foods & Nutrition: As we begin wrapping up Unit 3: The Food We Eat, students have selected a common food allergen to research and prepare a presentation over. The students have been working all week in class and will have next week(2 days) to complete this project. Please encourage your kiddos to join you in the kitchen over the break to continue practicing their culinary skills.

Spanish 1: week of 10 February 2025
We have completed our review of first semester’s material and application. We will begin Capítulo 5A on Monday. Vocabulary will include family members, possessive adjectives, irregular present tense verbs, and demonstrative adjectives.
Students will also begin a project.

ELA:
Hello Patton parents! This week the students are writing personal narratives, like the mentor text “Unusual Normality” we read at the beginning of January. This will be the last essay for this unit, and then we will be transitioning into our Shakespeare unit. The Breaking through Barriers unit’s essential question is: Are some differences too great to overcome?

English 8 & 9
Drama 8/9 – Rehearsal continues in preparation for the annual Dr. Seuss show. The principals from 2 of the 3 elementary schools have accepted the invitations for their students to attend. This unit will culminate on March 4th when the students present an evening show for families and friends.

Broadcast:
Our current independent project is for students to create an iMovie trailer to advertise their favorite class. This is a short activity, as they are using a templated design, however students will need to collect their b-roll for it during the class they selected. The planning for this was due 2/6 and the video is due 2/12. Students are also making the daily announcements.
Engineering Essentials:
Students are writing algorithms and moving into coding micro:bit computers. Students will make sure their code is executable using their logic background from the previous week.
Principles of Biomedical Science:
Students have finished the phlebotomy blood draw simulation! Special thanks to our nurse, Brittany Fox, for helping make this a reality! See pictures at the bottom of the newsletter!
We are continuing to have weekly quizzes over the reading on the PLTW website. Please encourage and remind your son/daughter to do the assigned weekly reading. Have a wonderful weekend!
