UPDATE ABOUT THE SOLAR ECLIPSE & SCHOOL
Given the unpredictable nature of the eclipseโs impact on our region, Champlain Valley superintendents have chosen to prioritize the safety and well-being of students and staff and mutually agreed to close schools on April 8, 2024.
Earlier this year, CVSD purchased solar eclipse glasses for each student. They will be distributed the week before the eclipse.
For more information on Vermontโs planning for the total solar eclipse, please visit vermont.gov/eclipse.
PiE BASKET RAFFLE UPDATES
Hello HCS Families!
The countdown for the Family Dance is on, and grades K-5 have decided on their Raffle Basket themes:
K.........LEGOS
1st......Arts & Crafts
2nd.....Family Game Night
3rd......Movie Night
4th......Vermont Made Products
5th......Summer Fun!
Classrooms are currently collecting items for their raffle basket grade themes, so if you'd like to contribute an item or two, please send those items in with your child this week, ideally by Friday 3/15 or Monday 3/18, at the latest. We are also seeking baskets! If you have any unused baskets you're looking to repurpose, this is your chance! You can leave these in the HCS main office this week and a PiE volunteer will collect them for the Basket Raffle.
Dance and Basket Raffle tickets are available to purchase in advance which is highly recommended, and will also be available for purchase at the event. The winners will be announced at the end of the dance and take their baskets home that evening!
As always, thank you for your continued support and participation in these community events and fundraisers that benefit our school and our kids!

UPDATED COVID GUIDANCE
Effective immediately, the Champlain Valley School District will adjust our isolation guidance post-COVID infection for staff and students to align with both the CDC and Vermont Department of Health recommendations.
When people get sick with any respiratory virus (including COVID, RSV or influenza), the updated guidance from the CDC recommends that they stay home and away from others. For people with COVID-19 and influenza, treatment is available and can lessen symptoms and lower the risk of severe illness (please contact your primary care for guidance on treatment options). The recommendations suggest returning to normal activities when, for at least 24 hours, symptoms are improving overall, and if a fever was present, it has been gone without use of a fever-reducing medication.
Given this information, CVSD is no longer asking students and staff who have tested positive for COVID to isolate at home through day 5. Put simply, if you are sick, please stay home and return when you are feeling better.
As part of the guidance, CDC provides active recommendations on core prevention steps and strategies:
Staying up to date with vaccination to protect people against serious illness, hospitalization, and death. This includes flu, COVID-19, and RSV if eligible.
Practicing good hygiene by covering coughs and sneezes, washing or sanitizing hands often, and cleaning frequently touched surfaces.
Taking steps for cleaner air, such as bringing in more fresh outside air, purifying indoor air, or gathering outdoors.
As always, if you are sick, please stay at home. When you feel better, you can return to school. Refer to the Health Services page of our website for the answers to frequently asked questions.

Will your student turn 5 before September 1, 2024? If yes, please contact Deb Lavalette at dlavalette@cvsdvt.org or call 802-482-6200 for information to register your child.

CVSD DEI EVENTS
Join the CVSD Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Team as we celebrate diversity and connect with the diverse cultures of our community. At these in-person events, we will learn the history of the various communities in Vermont. There will be shared cultural experiences, including art, food, and conversations about educational experiences. At each gathering various groups, community members, and stakeholders will present about their lives, work, and contributions to our state.
The next DEI event takes place on March 15 from 6-8 pm at Williston Central School where we'll be learning about the Somali community in Vermont. This event takes place during Ramadan. Come experience a traditional break-the-fast meal.
