BACK TO SCHOOL TIPS FOR PARENTS
- Help your child adjust to earlier bedtimes just to help them ease into new routines. Set a consistent bedtime for your child and stick with it every night. Getting enough sleep is critical for kids to stay healthy and be successful in school. Not getting enough sleep is linked with lower academic achievement, as well as higher rates of absenteeism and tardiness.
Have your child turn off electronic devices well before bedtime. Try to have the home as quiet and calm as possible when younger children are trying to fall asleep.
Children who eat a nutritious breakfast function better. They do better in school, and have better concentration and more energy. If your child does not have time to eat, send them to school with a grab and go snack like a granola bar.
Create an environment that is homework-friendly. Children need a consistent workspace in their bedroom or another part of the home that is quiet, without distractions, and promotes study.
Schedule ample time for homework. Build this time into choices about participating in after school activities.
Establish a household rule that the TV and other electronic distractions stay off during homework time. Supervise computer and internet use.
National Hispanic Heritage Month
National Hispanic Heritage Month is annually celebrated from September 15 to October 15 in the United States for recognizing the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States.
The Griffin Spalding County School offers an ESOL program that works to empower our students to graduate college and career ready by providing effective instruction to improve language proficiency and academic achievement.

Title I Annual Meeting Information - Fall 2024 held August 27, 2024
Title I, Part A requires that all schools receiving Title I, Part A funds must bring parents and families together for a parent meeting to inform participating parents about the school's Title I program and their right to be involved. This meeting must be held within the first 45 days of the new school year in GSCS.
Many Kennedy Road Parents joined us on August 27 either virtually at 9 am or in person at 5 pm
All parents that participated in the meeting received a free box of girls scout cookies.

Parent Resource Center
We have lots of resources for parents to have or check out for use in helping students achieve academically. We have newly added STEM resources for parent checkout to explore and learn STEM topics. These resources are located in the Media Center at Kennedy Road Middle School 280 Kennedy Road, Griffin, GA 30024. Did you know that the Griffin-Spalding County School System also has a Parent Resource Center? Find hands on activities, books and brochures for your student in our District Parent Resource Center. The center is designed to provide educational resources for parents to help your student succeed academically. Parents can also find computers with internet access at the center. The best part is resources are FREE! You can find the Parent Resource Center located in the Parent Services Building, Room 121 on 234 E. Taylor Street, Griffin, GA 30224.
