What is Happening in P.E. Class?
Hello Lothrop Families! We have been busy in the gym the past few weeks. Our last unit we were working on teamwork and cooperation at all levels. With this we practiced listening to others, giving and taking feedback respectfully, and personal responsibility. Highlighting how a person's' actions affect others. These personal skills are a big part of their behavior grade for PE classes. They were able to work on many different motor skills during this unit. Currently we are now having some fun with Thanksgiving themed games.
One of the other things I have been working on with students is understanding why PE class is important and what they are expected to learn. This year the National Society of Health and Physical Education released new standards for PE classes. As I am in the process of going through them and working on making sure lessons are following the new standards I will be sharing with all of you what the changes are. The way PE classes are run now are very different from what I did in elementary school and I'm sure it is different than what you remember. Below is a side by side comparison chart of PE before and now to help you see the difference.
Important Information
Pajama Days
If your child is wearing slippers or slides on pajama day, please be sure to send in extra shoes for going outside. Thank you!
Breakfast for Students
Breakfast is available to students prior to the school day. Students may go to the cafeteria upon their arrival to school. Lothrop School qualified this year to participate in the USDA Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program. This program is grant funded and provides free fresh fruits and vegetables to all students in eligible elementary schools as snacks during the school day. Lothrop students are provided with the snacks Monday-Thursday.
OVUUSD SEEKS SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER
The Otter Valley Unified Union School Board is looking for interested parties to be appointed to the Whiting representative seat on the board. The appointed school board member for the Whiting seat must be a resident of Whiting. The appointed school board member would serve through to the next election in March 2025, at which time they would be required to run and be elected to complete the remaining years of the term. Letters of Interest should be addressed to the OVUU Board and emailed to Melinda Piper at mpiper@rnesu.org. Chaperone Guidelines - Sign-up to Be a Volunteer!
It is the time of year where we begin to think about field trips. If you are planning on chaperoning a field trip or volunteering at Lothrop throughout the year, you are required to complete a background check, fingerprinting, and ID scanning through Raptor, our Supervisory Union security system. Due to the amount of time it takes to complete the full process, we are asking parents/guardians to begin the process now. Appointments for fingerprinting fill up fast and we want to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to attend field trips and take part in volunteering for school events with their students. If you are interested in chaperoning or want to check and see if the background check you completed in the past is still valid, please reach out to Sara Eddy at seddy@rnesu.org or call the office at 802-483-2242.
