Mr. Mauck's Musings
Today is the last day of the first semester. Students have finished their finals and school will resume next year on January 6th at 8 am. First semester grades will be stored on Monday the 6th at 3 pm. We would like to thank Mr. Uebelhor for serenading our students with Feliz Navidad at the end of the day. Lola Ruhe and Mrs. Kathy Gutgsell were the Student and Staff of the Week winners. The HOSA class helped county families with assistance this year from their Hopes for HOSA fundraiser. Thank you to all the classes for reaching a new record in assistance. Key Club visited the cultural center to help Santa last week. Our little wildcats distributed hot chocolate and sang carols for our students and staff. The JHS Student Life Committee supplied students with Ice Cream Sandwiches on Monday as a treat before finals.
Take a moment and look at Mr. Elrod's message for yearbook photos and senior ads. Thank you to Kelly Buechlein Photography for their contribution to the yearbook. The JHS Student Life Committee supplied students with Ice Cream Sandwiches on Monday as a treat before finals. We want to thank Tim Flick and his business for his generous contribution of $250 to the Wildcat Crew. Wildcat Crew is a staff-based group that promotes unity, recognition and positivity for our JHS staff. Oink Restaurant partnered with the Crew to conduct a fund-raiser. Jasper High School staff enjoyed pizza from Legacy Restaurant to celebrate the end of the semester. We want to thank Tracy and her staff for making the pizza for this delicious and relaxing activity.
Good luck to our Boy's and Girl's basketball teams as they take on the Southridge Raiders in a varsity only double header this evening. The ladies begin at 6:30 with the boys following around 8 pm. Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid site is now open for Students and Parents to complete their applications for next year. Any student considering attending college should complete the FAFSA to be eligible for financial assistance. I would encourage all families to fill out a application regardless of need as many colleges require FAFSA completion for all types of assistance. Many schools require submission for competitive non-need based scholarships or grants. The application is much easier than in the past. Click on the link for more information and to complete your application. FAFSA

BOOK BANTER FROM YOUR LIBRARY
Several students went to the fantastic public library field trip -- get a library card and learn the multiple resources available to you. Card applications and pamphlets are available at our JHS circulation desk.
The Parents Supporting Education writing contest forms and coloring pages are available at the circulation desk. Submissions are due by January 10, 2025.
The last of the new books are out and available on the window table in the library. Included in these selections is Beckett Dodd’s first novel, “The Fight for Five Million”. Beckett is the son of our own Mr. Dodd. Visit the library to check it out -- would be a great read over break!!
Teacher favorites and some student favorites are displayed and available for checkout. If you would like to add your favorite to the display, just come to the circulation desk.
Miss Bernadine welcomed the Little Wildcats to the library on Tuesday, reading, “I Love My Hair” by Natasha Anastasia Tarpley. Bernadine also won the drawing for the design a bookmark event in November. Drawings will resume in January…write a two sentence story on “new beginnings”.
Submissions to the arts magazine, The Paws, will be accepted all during the school year this year. Bring in a hard copy to the library, or email a copy of your outstanding work to sburns@gjcs.k12.in.us.
