Welcome to the BHS Express
A newsletter keeping you informed about Batavia High School
Hello Bulldog Families.
It’s been a week of sneezing and sniffing at BHS! Please encourage your students to continue to wash their hands and to sneeze into their arms. We know this sounds a little like what we may remind elementary students, but I’m noticing our high school students could use some reminders. We want to try to keep everyone as healthy as possible.
Take a few minutes to look through the Upcoming Important Dates. We are holding our Parent/Teacher Conferences on Thursday, February 13th. Be sure to sign up, via the link, to touch base with your student’s teacher. We are also holding an AP/CCP Information Meeting on February 13th. This is a mandatory meeting for any student planning to take a College Credit Plus course.
Check out some of our flyers included in this newsletter. We have several informative events coming up throughout the next few months.
Remember that our students DO NOT attend school on Monday, February 10th. We will see them back at BHS on Tuesday, February 11th.
Stay safe and healthy, and have a great weekend.
In service to our Bulldogs.

BHS World History Students Create Projects While Studying World War I
In Mr. Carter’s World History classes this week, students were given four different options to choose from to represent their understanding of major events and individuals from the WWI era. Some students chose to “be the teacher for the day’” and create a detailed slide show and note handout to give to the class to follow their lesson. Some chose to recreate a monument honoring an event or individual from WWI, adding a written summary about their topic and monument. Some chose to create a large timeline of key events with images and key points written on the date provided while others chose to recreate a scaled diagram of trench warfare with a written explanation and description of their environment. The results were a great mix showcasing the many different talents of our students!
Please Take Note of the Following:
- Attention sophomore parents: Your sophomore student will be taking the LEAP ACT Diagnostic test on March 18th. Make sure you join the LEAP Masterclass on March 31st. This online class will help you understand your child’s results and help you make an informed, individualized plan for your student. The FAFSA is available now!!!!
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for students entering or attending college for the 2025-26 academic year is up and running! Any student that is thinking about attending any type of education/training after high school should complete the FAFSA - technical school, trade school, community college, public university, or private university. The FAFSA is what determines your eligibility for student loans, grants, work-study, and scholarships - thus, it is VERY important that you complete and submit it. Keep in mind, all students are at least eligible for student loans! Families who want to start filling out the FAFSA now can start the process at studentaid.gov. If you need assistance, visit itsforyou.org and scroll to the “Looking for FAFSA help?” section for details. Let’s ensure no money is left on the table!
Updated Scholarship List:
Another option to look at opportunities for additional funding for college is by applying for scholarships. BHS Guidance updates this list regularly as new scholarships are shared with us. Here is a link to the most recent list that is shared with all seniors. There are A LOT of new scholarships that have been added!
