To Our District 67 Parents, Guardians, and Staff:
Following the announcement of District 67 Director of Teaching and Learning Vail Kieser’s planned departure at the end of the 2024-2025 school year, we embarked on a comprehensive search for her successor. This evening, I am pleased to share that the District 67 Board of Education has approved the appointment of Dr. Andrew Fenton as the next District 67 Director of Teaching and Learning, effective July 1, 2025.
Dr. Fenton currently serves as Principal of Carleton Washburne School in Winnetka Public Schools District 36. He was selected from a highly competitive pool of 80 qualified applicants and brings extensive experience in curriculum development and instructional leadership. Among a strong field of candidates, Dr. Fenton stood out for his collaborative spirit and ability to work closely with educators to implement innovative curricula across all content areas and grade levels (K-8).
"I am thrilled and honored to join District 67 as the Director of Teaching and Learning,” said Dr. Fenton. “I look forward to partnering with staff to provide a world-class education for our students, focused on growth and the Portrait of a Learner attributes. I can’t wait to get started and bring my passion for lifelong learning to the students, families, and staff of Lake Forest District 67."
Prior to his tenure at Carleton Washburne, Dr. Fenton served as Principal of Oak Grove School in District #68 (Green Oaks), Assistant Principal at Twin Groves Middle School in District #96 (Kildeer), and Assistant Principal at W.J. Murphy Elementary School in District #116 (Round Lake). He began his career in education as a language arts teacher in West Northfield School District #31 (Northbrook) and Chicago International Charter Schools (Chicago).
Dr. Fenton holds a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Lake Forest College, a Masters in Educational Leadership from Concordia University, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Western Illinois University.
We are excited to welcome a leader of Dr. Fenton’s caliber to this key role and are confident he will continue to build on our district’s strong foundation of excellence in teaching and learning. Please join me in extending a warm welcome to Dr. Fenton as he prepares to join our District 67 community!
Sincerely,
Matthew L. Montgomery, Ph.D.
