WV PTA Newsletter
November 2024 Edition
Dear Westwood View families…
Let the busy holiday season begin! We are more than excited for all the special events Westwood View has to offer these next two months! From Veterans Day celebrations to shopping nights to opportunities to give back to our community, there is something for everyone!
Thank you to everyone who has volunteered their time or money to all of our PTA activities so far. We really cannot have the classroom parties, movie nights, book fairs and charity drives without help from each and every one of you.
We were so happy to see so many of you at the second annual WV Night at the Drive-In. We hope you had as much fun as we did. If you have any photos from the night that you'd be willing to share with us, please send to the PTA at the email address below. Thank you!

Veterans Day Assembly
On Monday, November 11th at 2:00pm, Westwood View will hold a very special assembly in honor of Veterans Day.
During the assembly, we will honor veterans and those currently serving our country who are a part of the lives of Westwood View staff and students. We will also have a guest speaker talk to us about what it means to serve in the military and answer any questions the kids may have about military service. Each WV family is welcome to invite a veteran in their life to attend this special assembly and a gathering of veterans with refreshments prior to the assembly at 1:30pm in the Westwood View library.
Parents are also welcome to attend the assembly with their child.
For planning purposes follow the link below to RSVP for any guests by November 7th.

Students Chosen for Reflections Contest
WV students Rosie Hobart, K, and Nixon Hobart, 3rd, had their art chosen by the district to be submitted for the SMAC Reflections Contest!
The National PTA Reflections program encourages students of all ages and abilities to explore and be involved in the arts in an educational way. Through the program, PTAs across the country urge students to create and submit original works of art in the medium of their choice, reflecting on a specific theme.
The theme this year (2024-25) for Reflections is "Accepting Imperfection".
School-winning work will be displayed and the district winners announced in an Open House from 6:00-8:00 on Thursday, December 5 (tentative date) at the Center for Academic Achievement. This is a special event you will not want to miss. The student work will stay on display through January 2025 when the Award of Excellence winners are honored.
Congratulations Rosie and Nixon!

Adopt-A-Family Project
Westwood View will again team up with Operation Breakthrough this year to provide gifts & holiday cheer to local families in need.
Background: This marks the 10th year Westwood View has paired with Operation Breakthrough to adopt families from the KC community during the holiday season. Operation Breakthrough helps more than 3,400 children each year, providing gifts for children and their parents as well as a holiday meal for the entire family. The children who receive these gifts come from low-income families. Some are homeless, many in foster care because of neglect or abuse, and nearly all live in single-parent families headed by working-poor women.
THANK YOU in advance!
These children generally only receive the gifts we provide, so anything you choose to donate will be most appreciated.
