West Oxford Owl
September 6, 2024
The state released test scores from the 2023-24 year this week! We have so much to celebrate! West Oxford improved their letter grade from a F to a D, jumping 10 points on their SPG score. Our students met growth in reading and exceeded growth in math. While test scores are certainly only one measure of our incredible student and staff outcomes, it is an important measure. We are excited to celebrate how much our students have grown as we all work to improve our test scores across the school. Congratulations to all of our WOX owls!
This week we will have our first lockdown drill. We will review safety procedures with all students, and we work closely with law enforcement to conduct the drill. While we hope to never need to use these procedures, it is critical that our students know what to do in case of a crisis. Please talk to them about the importance of taking these drills seriously.
Our PTO will meet on Tuesday, September 10th from 6:00-7:00 in the media center. All parents are invited to join us.
Progress reports go home Wednesday.
Thursday is Grandparent's Day. We are excited to invite all grandparents to join their students for lunch during their scheduled lunch times. They can bring lunch for their students or join us for chicken nuggets and fish sticks.
On Thursday we will learn about Chilean Independence Day. The teachers will show a video in morning meeting, and students will dress in the colors of the Chilean flag or other attire that relates to Chile. This is a great opportunity for families to learn about Chilean culture together!
Friday, September 13th is a teacher workday. There is no school for students.
Our PTO Candyman fundraiser started last week and closes on September 16th. There are different levels of prizes for the number of items sold. Please support our PTO!
September 17th is our first All Pro Dad's breakfast for PK-2nd grade students. The All Pro Dad's breakfast for 3rd-5th grade students is October 8th.
PTO will host bingo night on September 27th from 6:00-8:00. Come join us!
Mark your calendars for Title 1 Night on October 8th from 4:00-6:00. We will celebrate Hispanic Heritage month.
West Oxford gear can be purchased here. The deadline has been extended to Monday
The weather is changing. We know that students wear jackets in the morning when it is cool, but many jackets are abandoned as they warm up throughout the day. Please put your child's name in the jacket so we can help them get home at the end of the day.
Please make sure that you are reading with your child for 20 minutes each night. Happy reading!
