WELCOME TO CIVICS!
Hello Mentors,
My name is Molly Bruzewski. My students call me "Miss B."
Thank you for entrusting your students to me this semester!
Though the content is challenging at times, it will be easy to glean contemporary examples from news feeds as we make our way through the course. This administration and the 118th Congress continue to make the news interesting!!
I have been teaching for MVU since 2001. I am passionate about teaching and learning online! More information about me is on the Instructor Info page in the course.
I look forward to working with and getting to know your students as they make their way through this course!
Final Exam Password
Final Exam Password - RD95QSZE
There are 30 Multiple Choice Questions. Generally, the exam should take 30 to 45 minutes. The exam session is set for 120 minutes. Accommodations are built in automatically for students with IEPs or 504 plans needing extra time.
Students Getting Started
Week 1 is about getting to know the course, completing the Orientation activities, and starting in Unit 1. More information about getting started is in the course.
- No Text is required. This course contains all of the lessons within each unit.
In addition to course lessons, there are several safe external links provided that allow students to search for helpful resources.
- Feel free to contact me!
Students - the BEST way to reach me is through the Student Learning Portal Message Center and I will respond within 24 hours.
Mentors - the BEST way to reach me is through email, bruzewski.m@michiganvirtual.org, or through the SLP Message Center. I respond to each site within 24 hours.
Start and End Dates
I do my best to message students based on when their start date is. I send regular reminders about where they should be based on this date.
- If your start date is August 18, your end date is January 5, 2024
- If your start date is August 25, your end date is January 12, 2024
- If your start date is September 1, your end date is January 19, 2024
- If your start date is September 8, your end date is January 26, 2024
- If your start date is after the dates above, your end date is still January 26, 2024.
Have a plan and stay on track. If you need to work with your school counselor or mentor, be proactive and get on top of your schedule right away. It makes things less chaotic for you, your mentors, and your parents when we hit the last few weeks of the course. When possible, work ahead. You will be glad you chose to do so. (See pacing information below in "TOOLS FOR STAYING ON TRACK")

COURSE EXPECTATIONS
What you can expect of me...
- I will respond to all messages within 24 hours Monday through Friday.
- All assignments will be graded within 72 hours of their submission date (excluding weekends).
- I always allow for assignments not earning full credit to be resubmitted, if your score is below 80%. Quizzes and Unit Tests cannot be resubmitted, though.
- Grading will adhere to the Michigan Virtual Grading Policy and Expectations.
- Progress checkpoints will be sent four times during the semester, through the Student Learning Portal (SLP).
IF Academic Integrity issues arise, you have my guarantee that I will:
- Address the issue and treat you with respect. We all benefit when our missteps are corrected. These are opportunities for growth.
Students with IEPs and 504 plans will be accommodated as their plans specify.
What I expect of you...
- To login to the course every day, Monday through Friday, except during breaks and holidays.
- To stay on pace with your weekly schedule, and submit assignments based on the recommended schedule.
- If you need to be away from the course for an extended time, just let me know when you will be coming back.
- That you will submit your own work.
- When using other sources, be sure to include the link and reference them when quoting them.
When working online, let me share some good practices that will benefit you now and in the future:
- When responding to classmates, use their names in your replies and always be respectful - even when you disagree with their opinions.
- Respect your privacy and that of your classmates - don't share passwords and be careful of any personal information you share.
