Student Entrance Into the Building- Student Entrance only ALL DAY
Students will be required to enter through the student entrance at all times during the school day.
To ensure a secure environment, all students must show their ID—either physical or digital—when entering the building. Please make sure you have your ID ready upon entry to the building. If you did not attend registration and get an ID, make up picture day is Tues. Sept. 10 and you will need to make sure you get it that day.
Students will not be permitted to enter through the main office and will be redirected to the student entrance.
Traffic Flow
Thank you for your patience as we are working out the kinks in the new traffic patterns. Things are improving and we are getting in routines this week. Please know that we began working on this shift last spring with the district and signage, etc was to be in place for the start of the school year. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances that did not occur in time which has made this shift more difficult. More signage has been ordered and lines should be repainted soon which will help with clarity for all moving forward. We also ask that you share this info with other family members or friends who may be picking up or dropping off students.
Please remember we have hundreds of student drivers on campus who are still learning the rules of the road. Please be patient with them, drive slow and pay attention while on campus.
THE SPEED LIMIT WHILE ON CAMPUS IS 10 MPH. Please drive slowly for the safety of all!
Students arriving at school should be dropped off at the student entrance using the parent drop off loop only. (At all times during the school day, students will no longer enter through the main office after 8:15 am). Students will be required to present their student ID (physical or digital) upon entry to the building. Students who have already been called out and approved for early dismissal should be picked up at the parent pick up loop at any time during the school day. The only time a student will be picked up at the main office is if a parent/guardian is coming in to pick up a student and this early release has not previously been called into the attendance line or front desk.
There is no student drop off permitted anyplace other than the drop off loop at the student entrance. Please do not drop students off in the main office, staff or student parking lots. This creates safety hazards that should be avoided by following the posted traffic route and signs on campus.
Shout out to Mr. O, Payton and Valencia for helping us make this short video to help you understand the new traffic flow on campus- check it out! New video with clarification Video linked here

TRAILS-Introduction to SEL
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
High school students face demanding academic, athletic, and social pressures that can affect their moods, relationships, academic performance, and ability to cope with stress. AAPS has partnered with the TRAILS program to help your student learn social and emotional skills: skills that will improve their ability to navigate common stressors, manage strong emotions, choose helpful behaviors, and successfully build and maintain relationships. Social and emotional learning (SEL) has been shown to improve academic achievement, decrease behavior problems, and increase resiliency.
Throughout the school year your student will be learning skills to develop the following social and emotional competencies alongside their academic work:
Self-Awareness: The ability to notice what is happening inside us; including our thoughts, feelings, and urges to act
Self-Management: The ability to manage strong thoughts and feelings, to choose helpful behaviors, and to act in ways that show respect to ourselves and others
Social Awareness: The ability to understand the thoughts and feelings of others, even if they are different from our own; and to respond in ways that are empathetic, respectful, and inclusive
Relationship Skills: The ability to define, initiate and maintain healthy relationships and interact effectively with others by communicating clearly and navigating conflict skillfully
Responsible Decision-Making: The ability to rationally approach problems and decisions, choose helpful behaviors, and set and achieve goals using personal values as a guide
Students will work to develop the awareness that their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all connected. They will learn skills to respond to unhelpful thoughts, regulate strong feelings, and choose behaviors that will help them cope more effectively with stress, reach their goals, and develop healthy relationships.
In the next month, your student will be formally introduced to SEL and will begin SEL lessons and skill practice in Skytime, starting by identifying their own strengths and areas for growth. Your support and partnership are incredibly important. Discussing SEL skills and lessons at home can help your student practice and strengthen these valuable skills!
To begin practicing SEL with your student, try this activity at home:
Discuss with your student the strengths and areas for growth they identified in themselves during their first SEL lesson in class (see Strengths Bingo for reference). Partner with your student to work on their identified area of growth. For example, if your student identified a desire to grow in the area of “doing things that are scary to me,” challenge them to choose a task that will foster this specific skill.
You will receive communications related to SEL throughout the school year. Each letter will contain information about the skills students are learning, along with ideas for practice at home. We thank you in advance for your partnership as we work to cultivate our students’ social and emotional skills!
Please feel free to reach out if you have any additional questions.

Critical Bluebook Update Released
A critical update to the Bluebook™ testing app was released at the end of August. To avoid overwhelming our network and causing delays on test day, students must open Bluebook now and ensure the update takes place. You do not need to sign in for the update to take place.
Also, remember to check for new releases every Friday on Bluebook Updates (https://bluebook. collegeboard.org/technology/updates).
Students must always use the latest version of Bluebook while testing. Failure to do so will cause testing irregularities that may void the student(s) test score.
Action Needed:
Report any battery life issues or other performance issues with your Chromebook to ITD as soon as possible so it can be resolved prior to testing. Please call 734-997-1222 or email family_techsupport@aaps.k12.mi.us.
To access Bluebook practice tests: (https://satsuite. collegeboard.org/sat/practice-preparation/practicetests), students must launch Bluebook, sign in with their College Board account, and click Full-Length Practice.
