From Mrs. McKnight
We survived the heat wave! The students did an excellent job being flexible and adjusting to our temporary routines to keep them cool. Looking forward to a weekend with appropriately warm temperatures!
Students have been reviewing our Ferson Way expectations over the past couple of weeks. They have learned what being a "Kind, Respectful, Responsible Learner" looks like across their day. Your child may have come home saying they received a golden ticket. These tickets are our way of acknowledging students who follow the Ferson Way. Their tickets get placed in a raffle for a reward of their choice. There have been a lot of students excited about being rewarded with a fun teacher experience or new spirit wear!
Throughout this school year there will be days where we run alternate schedules. The first of these days is Wednesday, September 4th. On Wednesday the 4th, school will run a Monday schedule. This is being done because our calendar loses a lot of Mondays and Fridays throughout the year due to holidays and school improvement days. What does this mean for you as a parent? Luckily, not a whole lot! Students will have Monday specials on Wednesday the 4th. So if your child normally has PE on Mondays, they will have it next Wednesday. Additionally, if your child plays an instrument, this may affect their lesson schedule. Please make sure they bring their instrument to school on Wednesday, September 4th if they normally have a lesson on Monday.
Curriculum Night
3rd, 4th & 5th Grade Curriculum Night: Wednesday, September 11th 6:00-7:00 pm
Session 1: 6:00-6:25 pm
Transition time: 6:25-6:35 pm
Session 2: 6:35-7:00 pm

Community Care & Support Partnerships
In D303, we value the opportunity to provide a community of care and support to our families, especially those faced with financial hardship. If your family is currently experiencing a significant financial need, our community partnerships have several supports available for families, including school clothes/shoes, winter coats/accessories, school supplies, toiletries, holiday meals, and/or holiday gifts. If you would like to be considered for any of these supports, please complete the Family Resource Form by September 13, 2024.
Phones and Smartwatches
Technology can be a wonderful way to keep in touch with family members. However, smartwatches and phones can become quite disruptive to the learning environment when parents are contacting their children throughout the day (and vice versa). The Elementary Student Handbook contains the following language:
Students are extended the privilege of possessing phones/smartwatches on school grounds; however, their use is limited to after-school dismissal and non-school days. These devices must be in the off position, or not used once the student arrives on campus until the end of the school day.
Teachers will request that phones and smartwatches are off and/or set to school mode for the duration of the school day. If you need to get a message to your child during the day, please reach out to the main office and your child's teacher.

Arrival Updates
As a reminder, all cars should enter and exit off of Burr Road only. Please do not use the entrance on Bolcum to enter our leave the parking lot. That is where our buses exit and it becomes too congested if cars are also using that entrance.
Tardies/Absences
I want to encourage you to get your children to school on time. Our day starts at 9:05, which means we need students ready to learn at that time. In the event that you arrive after 9:05, you will need to sign your child in. Illness, religious holiday, and family emergency are all excused absences/tardies, as well as the reasons outlined in the handbook. Other reasons that are not listed will be considered unexcused. In the event that your child has frequent tardies or absences, you can expect contact from the school to discuss how we can best support you child(ren) moving forward.

Lunch & Recess Volunteers
Our parent volunteers are an integral part of our school community. Therefore, we'd love to invite you to spend time with Ferson Creek students during lunch and lunch recess.
Interested? Information and sign up can be found using this link.
Please keep in mind that it is important to keep our students, staff members, and volunteers safe while they are in our schools. Given that, all volunteers must:
- Have your ID ready and sign in at the office to receive your visitor badge.
- EACH YEAR complete a Volunteer Liability Form. If the school does not have one on file for you and you do not provide one, the office will provide one for you when you come for your first day as a volunteer.
