Welcome to October and the start of the holiday season. We are continuing to communicate monthly through our electronic newsletter called the Little Lion’s Roar, which will provide you with information about school events and activities. Please read through the entire newsletter as there is a lot of important information.

Spirit Week is scheduled for October 7th-11th. Our district pep rally will be during the school day on Oct. 11th. Your child's teacher will send out information once we get closer about this fun day!

On Friday, October 18th your child will bring home their report card for the first nine weeks. Make sure you read through the information carefully and discuss your child’s progress with them. The copy of the report card is yours to keep for your records.

Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) is a process schools use to create a consistent approach for teaching and supporting positive behavior. PBIS is designed for all students and is applied in all areas of the school including the classroom, hallway, lunchroom, restroom and recreation spaces. PBIS helps to prevent or reduce challenging and unsafe behaviors that can lead to the emergency use of restraint and seclusion. The PBIS framework includes the below practices.

Last year, our building received state recognition for our hard work in PBIS with our Li'L Lions as we were awarded the Silver Award.

This year we are also acknowledging our students through Daily PBIS Points and then students can receive our traditional Cherry Hill Golden Ticket, Blue Bucks for the Blue Bank, Golden Spoon, and Golden Broom. You will see various ways in which our Li'L Lions celebrate meeting their goals through different celebrations, that our students actually vote upon themselves.

Cherry Hill Primary is excited to continue our family engagement opportunities this year. Last month, we celebrated Grandparent's Day and it was an incredible day. This month instead of Trunk or Treat we will have a Jack-O-Lantern Jubilee. We are asking those companies and educators that come to paint or carve a cool pumpkin design or theme and bring that along with candy to hand out to students. Students will then vote on the best pumpkin for a chance to win a pumpkin trophy and bragging rights! We can't wait to see you then! On Thursday, October 31st we will be having our annual Halloween costume parade here at Cherry Hill. We are encouraging all students to dress up on that day so their friends and teachers can see them in their costumes. More information about that day will follow. Please remember to have your child dress in age-appropriate and school-appropriate costumes. Any costumes that promote violence and/or weapons are not appropriate for young children to wear on this day to school.

Please review below some positive parenting tips to guide you at home.

We want to thank you for making sure your child is at school to learn every day. It is not only important and crucial to your child's education, but this is mandated by the State of Ohio. School is based upon hours and not days. If your child is tardy, these hours will add up.

Remember, if your child is absent that day it is important to:

Notify both the teacher and the office

Bring a medical excuse upon your child's arrival back to school

Please make sure that you take the time to review your information and make any updates or changes that you may have (https://washingtonch.esvportal.com/Login.aspx). This is our way of getting in contact with you for any reason and it is very important that all your information is up to date. If you feel that you do not have any changes, you will still need to login to Oneview and review the current information and SAVE and SUBMIT it so that our secretaries know that what we have on file is up to date. If you have any questions or need any assistance doing this, feel free to contact the office at 740-335-3370 and speak to one of our secretaries. It is important that we have everything completed if you have not already done so. Thanks for your cooperation.

We are continuing to make an effort to keep our school website updated as another tool for communicating with parents. We will be adding, revising and updating information on the site throughout the school year. Parents may access the website by entering www.wchcs.org and finding Cherry Hill’s drop down menu on the home page.
