A Message from Mrs. Culpepper
Dear Westlake Elementary Families,
We are entering our last week of the 2023-24 school year. It has been a wonderful school year filled with lots of events and activities. Our staff, students, and families have worked together to create a memorable school year. To our 5th graders, we wish you the best on your new adventure. To everyone else, we look forward to seeing you in August! I hope you all have a wonderful summer.
Thank you for sponsoring our staff at the BBQ on Friday. Everyone had a burger grilled by our child nutrition department.
The office will be closing for July. Please make sure that you take care of any office business prior to the end of July.
If you have a 5th grader or a 2nd grader that has taken a chromebook to use at home and school, please bring the chromebook and charger to school to turn in. We will be collecting all chromebooks from 2nd and 5th graders. All 3rd and 4th graders are welcome to keep their chromebooks home for the summer. If you have any questions, please reach out so we can help.
Please check the lost and found piles. They are located by the lunch tables. We have a ton of clothes that will be donated next week.
The last day of school is June 13th and it is a minimum day. All students will be dismissed at 12:30 unless your child attends the CVUSD child care.
We will be submitting one final Legacy Brick sale if your family is interested in purchasing one. There is more information below under the PFA tab or there is also a button below to take you to the website. The students love seeing their bricks!
Please read this email in its entirety as it contains important information about upcoming events, the digital backpack with flyers, the lunch menu and more! All of our enrichment activity information is located in the digital backpack.

We LOVE our Dance Program!
A HUGE thank you to TOArts and Dance 4 Wellness. The 8 week dance program was so successful.
This program was sponsored in part through a grant from TOArts and taught by Dance 4 Wellness. Thank you TOArts for supporting arts education in our schools. Westlake Elementary School appreciates you!
TOArts has generously helped to fund this program for the last three years. Part of the stipulation to receive the money (and be approved for any donations going forward) is to provide feedback about the positive effects that the dance program had on your child. Please click on the link below to provide positive feedback for this program. Thank you again!

New 5th Grade Tradition...
We are excited to start a new tradition! On Thursday, June 13th at 12:25pm, our TK-4th grade students will create a path for the 5th graders to exit the school out our main gate for the last time as Westlake Wizards. The gate is labeled GATE 3 and is located next to the office on the courtyard/MPR side. The other gates will not be opened until after our 5th graders have departed. This is our last day of school and everyone will be dismissed at 12:30.
Help Wanted for the 2024-25 School Year
We are in need of a PE academic specialist for our TK/K students. It would be approximately 8 hours a week. You would only be working with our TK/K students twice a week for 30 minutes each session. This position is also funded completely by our PFA.
Art Corner with Mrs. Foll
Here are a list of the different projects the students completed with Mrs. Foll.
Lost and Found
Our Lost & Found is consistently overflowing. One of our shared goals is to raise responsible and independent children. Empowering our kids to take responsibility for their belongings is a crucial step in their growth and development. It helps children develop organization, time management, problem solving abilities and a basic respect for things which will serve them well throughout their lives.
A good practice is asking your kids at pick-up whether they have all of their belongings before departing. If they are missing items, have them go back and locate them.
Let's work together to help us reunite lost items with their owners and teach our children the value of responsibility from a young age!
All lost and found items will be donated at the end of the month.
School Site Council Volunteers Needed
Campus Cleanliness and Lost & Found
Calling all adults and students: Help to keep our campus clean! Let's help out our Custodians and Campus Supervisors to keep our campus clean. If you see a clothing item, lunchbox, water bottle or trash, grab it and take it in the Lost & Found or trash. We have lots of Lost & Found by our lunch area. Please check to see if your missing lunch box, sweatshirt, or water bottle is there. We will bag it up and donate it all soon.
Let's come together as a community. We can make a meaningful impact on the cleanliness and safety of our school. Your support in this endeavor is invaluable, as it not only beautifies our surroundings but also sets a positive example for the students. Let's unite to create a clean and nurturing space for our Wizards to thrive and take pride in!
Birthdays
Please note that due to dietary restrictions and covid protocols, we ask that you not bring in any treats or food to your child's class. If you would like to pass something out, supplies or goodie bags are permitted.

Attendance
Please remember that all absences must be phoned in to our attendance line, via a recorded message at: 805-494-0324
Be sure to state the date and reason for your child’s absence or late arrival, and your child’s teacher or room number. Any unexcused absence is counted as truancy. Students are allowed only three truancies per year before action is taken. Planning ahead with your child will also help to avoid unnecessary tardiness. Students who arrive on time feel better about school and perform better in the classroom.
Lunch Program
Although all students will receive meals at no charge again this school year it is very important for parents or guardians, to complete and submit an application for free or reduced meals as soon as possible after July 1st.
Visit https://conejo.vcoe.org/fsonline/Main/Login to complete the application online starting on July 1st, 2023. For first-time applicants, it's recommended to use a desktop computer to set up your profile. If your student is found eligible to receive meal benefits it might also qualify your family for discounts on gas, electricity, cell phone or cable service, and a waiver to take the SAT and ACT tests.
PAPER APPLICATIONS WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE SCHOOL SITE AND DISTRICT OFFICE AFTER JULY 1ST
Welcome to Westlake Elementary: a new webpage of flyers from community groups/organizations that will be used to reduce the amount of paper that your child takes home in their backpack.
Click on the button below for information regarding Chorus, Band, Strings, and all CRPD enrichment classes.
Please Note: The Conejo Valley Unified School District approves flyers from organizations as a community service. The distribution, posting, or publishing of these materials is *NOT* the District's endorsement of the group's activities, products, or services.
